Quinoa Biryani stole the show

Govinda's had opened their Jumeirah outlet a few months ago and I had heard it's great but hadn't yet got a chance to go there until this day.

A friend's acquaintance invited my here to try out their food.

Compared to their other outlet which is in Bur Dubai, this is posh and has a lot more options to choose from.
They have a lot of fusion food and healthy options too.

We started with pani puri shots.
Our usual Indian street food - served in shots.

The presentation (along with the creativity) stands out. The taste wasn't something exceptional.
You can put the pani in the puri or have it after the puri as a shot.

For starters, we had Malai Sheekh kebab which were really soft. Thanks to the malai I'm guessing.
Now usually when one thinks of sheekh kebab, the word "vegetarian" isn't anywhere close by; but this vegetarian variant of the sheekh kebab was great.

Along with that we called for some mocktails. Paradise, a thandai and Mango coconut.

Paradise had a creamy flavour to it and was really nice. But mango coconut was mind-blowing.
It is mango juice/pulp mixed with coconut water, and served in a coconut.
I'm not much of a fan of coconut water as it is, and when it is mixed with something else, it would generally make me skeptical. But this one was amazing. We could get ample flavour of both - the coconut and the mango.
The thandai wasn't exactly as expected. We could feel the texture of the masala powders in our palette and overall it was a bit thicker than what you usually get.

Now coming to the mains.
Since they have international cuisine too, we decided to order a Risotto.
For the remaining ones, we chose Indian. Mirch ka saalan, Mataji ka paratha, and their healthy 'oil-free' Paneer chaman, and some other Indian breads to accompany it.

The risotto was quite a bit of a let down I'd say. The peas in it did not feel fresh, and the rice wasn't too appealing either.
On the other hand, the Indian dishes were delicious. Mataji ka paratha is a paratha with lots of ghee. It is thick and a bit crispy too. It was great. The mirchi ka saalan was just as expected and the paneer lived up to the expectations.

After this we decided to try something which looked really interesting when we saw the name - the Quinoa Biryani !
Now biryani is something you keep for your cheat day and quinoa is when you're being a health freak. How do these two come together? Would it be nice? We had all sorts of thoughts in our minds.
It was served and it looked really interesting. We took the first bite with a bit of apprehension in our minds. We totally loved it. We were craving for more. This dish did justice to biryani as well as the healthy part of it.
Personally I did not have much expectations from this one, but it surpassed them all.
I would certainly come back for this one again!

Sadly, I've got just one picture since I was too eager to try it out.

Now coming to sweet endings.
These guys have a wide variety of Ice-Creams that they make in-house.
I'm more a fan of the traditional flavours so I ordered a malai vanilla ice-cream, while my friends ordered a Vanilla ice-cream with Mango, and a tiramisu.

The malai vanilla is far out of this world. If you're a fan of malai kulfi, then you should definitely try this one it. It is a mix of malai and vanilla. It's like a party for your taste-buds.
If you want some more of a guilty pleasure add some mango in it. That's what my friend ordered. It makes it all the more better, though the mango doesn't allow the flavour of malai in this one to be quite distinct.
Next the Tiramisu. Very creamy, with chocolate powder on top. Yum! But my personal favorite would still be malai vanilla ice-cream.

The interiors are classy.

Since the name is "Govinda's", which also happens to be one of the names of Lord Krishna, you can see those portraits inside.

The service is at par and the staff is always on the lookout.

This place was quite noisy even on a weekday, and also feels a tad bit cramped which was a bit of a letdown.

Overall, the food, the service and the location totally makes this place worth a visit.

This place also accepts Zomato Gold on food! If you aren't a Zomato Gold member yet, use my code - UDITSS - to sign up and get a 25% off !
