Charbone Grill

Looking for a grills place that's easy on your pocket? This one is a very good option. I was invited here to try out the food.  This isn't a very big place but not too small either. The interiors are average.  They have various combos at a reasonable price. I tried the chicken one which is for AED 47. This is an all-you-can-eat combo. It includes a wide variety of starters. There was Chicken achari, chicken malai, Turkish chicken, chicken tikka , and bihari chicken . I really liked the Bihari chicken and the Turkish chicken. The spices that these were made in were really good. The others were not bad to taste but felt a tad bit dry.  For the mains we had chicken kadhai . It was prepared really well, and the semi-dry gravy had a good flavour to it. You can opt for the butter chicken if you like instead of this one.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Famished Explorer [ UDIT ] (@uditss) on Aug 28, 2019 at 5:23am PDT We had i

Pita Pit - Media city

I visited them at their other outlet recently and though of checking this out when a friend invited me here. It was a bit late and they had almost started closing, and it felt really deserted. Also, it was a bit hard to find. I'd suggest this place mostly for ordering in.  I had the spicy chicken  wrap which I had tried at the other outlet and I liked it here as well. Chicken is grilled in sriracha and it also has some fresh vegetables in it. Tastes delicious.  We also tried the souvlaki wrap this time. It has smoked chicken, fresh salad vegetables and feta and swiss cheese. I did expect this to be really good, in fact, better. This wasn't bad, but I think it lacked a little flavour.  They have some nice beverages too and I tried the apple & ginger one. I liked the combination and it had a good flavour to it.  We also had the matcha latte . I do enjoy matcha drinks, but found this one just average. I'm not sure if it was the way it was made or what w

Tum Tum Asia - vegan review

Image
My family has recently got into vegan food and we thought of trying some. Usually we end up at a vegetarian Indian restaurant which has a lot of vegan dishes, but this time we wanted to try out something different. Tum Tum Asia is one of the very few (or perhaps the only) vegetarian Asian restaurant that I know of, and majority of the items on the menu are available in vegan  variants. (P.S. Items on their menu with the vegan symbol can be made vegan on request and may not necessarily be vegan if you don't specify that). We went there on a weekend, but since we went early (around 8pm), it wasn't crowded, although it was packed by the time we were done with our meal. They do cater to the Indian palate too, and I say this because they have a section in their menu called "Because Indian is Pan Asian" which does have a handful of Indian items.  All items in this review are Vegan . We started with some refreshing drinks with some interesting names.  We ordered

This is a chain from back in India and we used to go there quite often. I was waiting to try it eagerly since it opened up here, and this day finally we went there.  The ambience is really nice and feels upmarket. Seeing the menu, I was pleasantly surprised as to how reasonably priced it was. There is seating upstairs as well as downstairs, though only the one at the top was operational when we went.  (P. S. If there's someone in your group who has difficulty climbing, then it's better to check beforehand if the section below is operational.) For the starters, we had the Reshmi malai chicken . It has a marination of yoghurt and cream, and is flavoured with pepper. The chicken was soft and tasted delicious. The amount of spices felt just right.  For the mains, we had the Fish Rahra . This is a Patiala dish made in a spicy tomato gravy. The gravy tasted superb. The fish was first fried and was crispy. We were expecting it to be a bit softer. No complain about the fl

Khao Siam 45

This is a newly started Thai restaurant in Business Bay; more precisely in Baywaters Towers. It might be a bit hard to find, but use the map location and it will lead you to the building. Park in the building and from the parking, go towards the other side where you'll find this restaurant.  Khao Siam in Thai means Rice of Thailand and 45 is an auspicious number as it adds up to 9.  They source a lot of their ingredients to maintain the authentic taste which I was invited to try out. I started with the poh pia phak (deep fried vegetable spring rolls). These were served on a bed of fried noodles, and sweet chilli sauce on the side. These tasted quite good though I wouldn't say the best.  Next was the famous Thai soup Tom Yam goong which is a tangy and spicy soup and was made with shrimp (goong). This was a tad bit different than the ones I've usually had. I bit more tangy and hot. Pretty good overall.  For the mains too, there was one of my favourite Thai di

Back to Grills - Asian grills and bbq restaurant

I'm sure most of us love grills, and when I was invited here, I was looking forward to see what are their offerings and the concept. The place is small though cozy, and their menu is a bit different from most of the "grill" places that I've come across.  Before our food arrived, they got us some chinese bhel to munch on. Crunchy, and a hint of spicy and sweet to it.  We started with the veg platter which has some interesting items in it. The one which I totally enjoyed was the soya chhaap. These were soft and really flavourful. There were also the cottage cheese pineapple skewers which were nice, veg brochettes, smoked baby corn, and cream cheese almond broccoli which were also quite good.  They gave a roomali roti along with this which was soft and hot, and goes well with the soya chhaap. For the non-veg starters I had the lamb boti . The lamb was prepared really well in what they call Nawab's secret spices. It is slow cooked on char-grill. Yo

Socialicious - Asian fusion

I've seen this restaurant a few times while passing by, and had had tea here a while ago, but this time I was invited by a friend of mine to try out the food here.  It is a really nice place, although not very big. They have seating indoors and a little bit of outdoors as well. They have a lot of interesting items, and we wanted to try them all.  We started with the chef's special mocktail . It doesn't have a specific name as far as I know but is available on request. It is watermelon based and has the chef's secret ingredients in it. We took a sip and totally loved it. With a hint of spice to it, the combination was just amazing. We started with the tom kha chicken soup . Loved the flavour of the coconut milk in it, as well as the spicy overtones. It felt really comforting and was served along with some crackers on the side.  Being a big fan of shrimps, I had to try out the prawn skewers . Coated with some lovely spices and served with peanut sauce on
