Golden Dragon

This is an Asian restaurant in Oud Metha where I was invited to try out the food. It has a nice décor with an Oriental feel to it. We went for an early dinner on a weekday and it was quite empty. By the time we were getting done, the place had almost got full. We started with the chicken satay which was served with peanut sauce. It tasted good although it had a flavour of coconut to it which I wish was mentioned beforehand. The next appetiser was the fish in honey chilli mustard . It tasted really delicious although it was a different than expected and also looked different from the picture in the menu.  We were expecting it to be something like this: Whereas it had a semi-gravy to it and had a bit of a creamy texture too. For the mains, we had the Thai lemongrass rice with chicken. This tasted great; the flavour of lemongrass could have been more prominent though. I could taste the flavour in only some of the bites. The other item dish we had was the prawn Pad Thai . This ...

J's Kitchen - multi-cuisine restaurant

This is a nice restaurant located in Leva hotel and I was invited here to try out their food. It's not too big but has a nice ambience that feels upmarket.  We started with some mocktails. The berry based one was quite good, rest were average. For the appetisers, we started with Bang Bang Shrimp . It was crispy and nice. The pepper chicken were good too, although they could have been a been more moist. For the soups, I really liked their Malaysian Laksa soup . It was really creamy. The cream of mushroom was also flavourful as well as creamy. They've got some sushi too. The volcanic roll tasted great. The mango maki roll was good enough.  For mains, we had their chicken biryani which was quite good.  An interesting dish was the bunny chow . It is an African dish which seems like a bit of an Indian fusion. I can loosely define it as butter chicken served inside a stack of slice breads. If you're looking for something that has a classic Indian taste but a bit of a fusion...

Great Wok

This is a newly opened Asian restaurant in JLT, and I was invited here to try out the food.  It is a small outlet which has limited seating for about 5-8 people, so I'd rather recommend a delivery. For our beverages, we started with a fresh orange juice and a watermelon juice , both of which were quite good.  Then we moved on to the soup. We had the chicken tom kha . It was a bit thicker than usual. The taste was good though.  For the appetisers, we had a prawn cake . Not too many places have this so we were looking forward to it. The quantity is really good. The taste wasn't bad but it could have had some more flavour.  The chicken siu mai were really good though and we had it along with the spicy sauces that they served.  For the mains, we ordered a Nasi goreng . This one was just average; I'd say I've had better.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Udit 📷 [Famished Explorer] (@uditss) The fish in blackbean sauce ...

Go Chinese

This is a delivery outlet with some interesting food options. They offered to send me some food for a review. The food was nicely packed and arrived on time. For the appetisers, we had the veg spring roll . A lot of places this is just average, but I really liked this one. The filling was nice and flavourful. They also have combos and I ordered the starter + bowl combo.  For my starter I chose the lemongrass shrimp dumpling in chilli lime soy sauce . The dumplings were delicious and the sauce really added some flavour to it.  For the bowl, it was the kung pao chicken . I wouldn't say it was the best, but it was certainly very good. We had it along with rice.  Last but not the least, we had the pad thai noodles . The quantity was really good. It could have had some more vegetables though.  Click here for interesting places around Dubai.

Gypsy Chinese

We were passing by this area and decided to stop here for some Chinese.  Started with some dynamite chicken which was flavourful. It wasn't as spicy as expected though but was good. Next we had the lamb burnt chilli . This had some really good flavour to it. I really liked the chilli in this, and the texture of the lamb was good too.  For the mains, we had the chicken pot rice . The flavour in this was bland for our liking. We were expecting something a bit more flavourful.  The staff is attentive and courteous.  There is a wide variety of items on the menu.

Vietnamese Foodies

I hadn't tried Vietnamese food before and when I heard about this, I was looking forward to check it out.  They had some music playing outside and it easily grabbed our attention. There is seating indoors (for about 15 people) as well as outdoors.  They surprisingly have a wide variety of vegetarian items and that's what we tried. Some of the dishes might be available with meat too so you've got a choice there if you're a non-vegetarian.  We started with the veg gyoza . These had a filling of water chestnut and carrot. Now I'm not a huge fan of water chestnut but these tasted really good.  Next we chose one of the soups - the Pho Chay . The word "Chay" means vegetarian and you'll see it in a few more dishes in this review. This one had lotus root, mushroom, and tofu in it.It was served with some bean sprouts and chillies on the side, and I totally liked it. I did add a couple of sauces which they gave us and that really accentuated the flavour. Anothe...
