Azerbaijani food has a lot of Middle Eastern influence, and a lot of dishes are variations of those you get in the Middle East. There were a few good local restaurants I visited, and a few others too. I'm going to talk about all of these in this post.  The name of the dishes may be a bit different in Azeri (language), and some might just be a translation / description of the dish. You can click on the name of the restaurant to get the exact location.   Burc Qala [well known for Azeri cuisine]:- This is located in the heart of the city - Icheri Shehr (which means Old City). While walking through the old forts in this area, we came across this restaurant. The interiors feel really traditional. Also, a lot of shades of red are used. Breakfast at Burj Al Arab

Oh boy was I excited to have breakfast here! I had stayed at this hotel a decade ago, and hadn't been here since then until this day when we decided to come here for breakfast with some colleagues. The restaurant that we dined at is called Sahn Eddar . They have various set menus to choose from.  All of these include a juice of your choice as well as a tea/coffee. There's a continental breakfast which is for AED 220. This includes a breakfast stand which has some mixed fruits, smoked salmon with caviar, a few types of cheese. I really like the cold cuts of the smoked salmon; the caviar along with it tasted premium. The fruits were also fresh and juicy. On the side you also get toasted bread along with jams and marmalade as well as some Danish pastries. We also had the Indian breakfast which is for AED 310. Sadak Chaap - vegetarian Indian street food

Sadak chaap is a small vegetarian eatery in Karama. The name literally means "of the street" (or "born on the street"). The word "chaap" is also a dish. The name is a nice play on words.  Chaap is usually made from meat, but the speciality of this place is that it is made form tofu (soya-bean).  While my food was being prepared, I started with a garam chai ki pyali (tea). They make this with honey which is nice if you are trying to cut down on sugar. It did taste pretty good; a bit on the sweeter side though.  For starters, they have the veg chaap (tofu kebabs). They've named them after different states, and the mix platter that we had is called Sanyukt Rajya (unity of states).
