Chalet Berezka

The name of this restaurant has its roots in soviet state. It serves Russian and Ukrainian cuisine and invited me to try out some of their dishes.  I really liked the ambience here. It is spacious and they have a see-through kitchen. They also have outdoor seating which would be perfect during winters. For those who like shisha, there is a smoking section upstairs which also has karaoke.  We started with some garden salad which was a mix of fresh vegetables topped with sour cream dill dressing. It also had an egg in it which I liked.  For mocktails, we had a pina colada, and a passion fruit based drink.  They serve alcoholic drinks as well. Then we had some assorted varenili . One of them was stuffed with potato and mushroom which I enjoyed. The other one had cottage cheese and cherry which was a bit sweet for my liking, but had an interesting flavour if you like to try something different.  The beef carpaccio is what we had next. This is beef tenderloin top

Grand Cafe - boulevard

Grand cafe is located near Dubai mall just at the corner boulevard street at a lovely location. The place offers free valet parking too. They've recently launched their lunch buffet and they invited me to try it out.  It is reasonably priced at AED 65 without shisha, and AED 85 with shisha.  They have a good selection of items too. Beverages, salads, snacks, appetisers, mains, and desserts. For the beverages, they have jelleb and lemonade.  I really liked the mushroom soup here. It was creamy. There was also a chpice of lentil soup.  I really liked the tabbouleh and the eggplant walnut salad that they had. It was fresh and flavourful.  For the hot appetisers there was batata hara , sambosek , spinach fattayer , cheese rolls , and sfiha baalbakiyeh . These were good enough, but could have been better.  I also had the makanek there which I liked. The more traditional bbq choices like the kafta and taouk were a part of the buffet too.  For the

Asha's - Maryah Island

Asha's is a well known chain of restaurants and they recently launched a new menu called Himachal to Ladakh that is there until the 26th of December 2019 across all their outlets.  We started with some refreshing mocktails. I liked the one which had chili and coconut in it. It was actually spicy, and if you want to try something different, this is a good choice.  Then came  the Thukpa soup which is originally a Nepali/Tibetan soup but they prepare it with their own touch to it. They add some red chilli, garam masala, and lemon to it. It has some noodles in it too, and all of this really brought about a very nice flavour to the soup. It had an Indian touch to it while still preserving the core Nepali taste.  Next were the Ladakhi dumplings . This were chicken dumplings that had a thick curry to it which was made from onion and tomato masala. I eat my dumplings with lot of sauce but the curry itself acted as a sauce which was really delicious.  We also had the chili g

Curry Culture

This is an Indian restaurant located in Ibn Batuta mall where I was invited to try out the food.   It was a bit smaller than I expected.  We started with the methi corn seekh kebab which looked really good, and tasted nice too. The bharwan aloo was hot and flavourful, and is worth trying out. The Mumbai style pav bhaji was just average; it could have certainly had a little more flavour. Gulnar Paneer tikka was soft and was prepared well.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Famished Explorer [ UDIT ] (@uditss) on Oct 19, 2019 at 10:20am PDT Peri peri fish was the next item on our table. It looked tempting, but I took a bite and did not like it at all. It tasted really weird and there was a bit of a smell to it too.  We then had the gosht nalli biryani . It sounded interesting but the mutton in this was average. Paneer nimboo mirch was a really nice dish with a bit of a tangy gravy.  For dessert, we had gaajr ha

Kandy Club

This is a Sri Lankan restaurant and bar which gets its name from the city of Kandy .  It is not a very big place but had good food and live music too.  I was invited here to try out the revamped menu. We started with some fish cutlets; these were fried well and tasted nice.  The pol roti is a very famous Sri Lankan speciality. It is basically coconut bread (roti). We had this with sambal which is a really spicy paste, and I totally loved it.  They have Chinese appetisers too and we had the peri peri chicken, and devilled chicken. Both of which had a really nice flavour and were spicy just like I like it.  For the mains too, we had quite a few items.  I really liked the kothu roti which is a spicy preparation and one of my favourite.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Famished Explorer [ UDIT ] (@uditss) on Oct 17, 2019 at 5:38am PDT We had steamed vegetables, and a beans preparation which was interesting, but was a bit simp
