Soul Sante - vegan, gluten free, soy free, sugar free cafe

Image
This is a newly started cafe that is Vegan, soy free, sugar free, and gluten free. I've recently taken a liking towards vegan food and was looking forward to checking it out when they invited me.  I liked the interiors; they have an earthy feeling with some plants dotted around the place. This certainly gives a very healthy feel to it. The restaurant also has a partially open kitchen. They have really interesting items on the menu and we started with the beetroot sliders . It is a whole grain bun with a nice beetroot patty inside along with tomato, lettuce and purple cabbage. For someone who isn't much of a beetroot fan, I really liked this burger. It is also guilt free.  Then we had the quinoa biryani . This was more like a pulav, and had mostly just broccoli in it among the vegetables. The spices too were on the lower side, and I would have liked it to have some more flavour. Although, it's not bad considering that they make it without any oil. It is served wit

Bandstand

Image
This is a newly started restaurant in Royal Ascott hotel. It serves alcohol and has Mumbai style food ("Bandstand" being a name of an place in Mumbai). It has the vibe of a sports bar and also has a pool table. i was invited here to try out the food. We started with some interesting cocktails. There was Spice Me Daniel , New York sour , Hot Tequila , Remember Me , Honey Mary and more. The hot tequila was good. Some of the others were good, while some were just average.  To munch with the drinks, we had masala fries . The masala was flavourful and gave a Mumbai style taste. There was also popcorn bhel which was quite interesting. It is just as the name suggests and is nice as a snack with your drinks. For the appetisers, we had the prawn koliwada and the fish koliwada . Both of these were delicious. The fish was soft and yum. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Famished Explorer [ UDIT ] (@uditss) on Dec 29,

Ketch Up

This place has a 'katchy' name, and as you must have guessed, this place primarily serves burgers, fries, and other fast food items. It is a really nice place in bluewaters island and my friend invited me here to heck it out. They have seating outdoors beside the water, as well as an indoor seating.  We started with the grilled avocado with shrimps and spicy sauce . I'm not a big avocado fan but I really liked the grilled avocado. The shrimp was crispy and the spicy sauce made it taste delicious.  Then we had the cheddar cheese sticks with cranberry sauce . It didn't have as much of a cheese pull, and tasted average. Also, I personally didn't like the cranberry sauce with it much. I had it with regular ketchup! They have soups too, and one of the cold soups caught my attention. It was called okroshka . This is a cold slavic soup with laban base. It had little cubes of met in it and a mild flavour of wasabi. I thoroughly enjoyed it.  For the burgers, w

Pablo De Cafe

Image
The name Pablo is such a fancy sounding one, and perhaps that's the kind of expectation I had form this place when they invited me. As soon as I went there, I realised that it was quite a small place.  They have some interesting drinks, especially the one with passion fruit in it. We ordered one passion fruit grape which tasted nice. It had a prominent flavour of grape, and we could taste the passion fruit too.  The other one that we had was the passion fruit orange . This tasted tangy and fruity but took about 25 mins to be served. They have shawerma too, and they recommended us the American shawerma . It was my first time having this. They had used sauces that they'd use in a burger and it was served with fries on the side. This tasted really good and worth a try.  We also saw the Italian burger on the menu and were intrigued; had to check it out. The burger itself was good. The bun was soft and the filling had a good flavour. Although, there was nothing Ital

Curry Chatti - vegetarian review

Image
This is a restaurant located in Karama and they offered to send me food for a review.  Since my family is vegetarian, I asked for pure vegetarian food only.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Famished Explorer [ UDIT ] (@uditss) on Dec 7, 2019 at 7:57am PST The delivery was on time and he did not have to call to ask for directions. For starters, they sent me the gobi manchurian. It was really good and had the comforting Indo-Chinese flavour to it. It was semi-dry and prepared in an orange-ish sauce.  Their specialty is biryani, and they sent me the vegetable biryani. It was made malabar style and packaged in a nice container. The rice was white and smaller than the usual biryani rice. The taste was really good. It had a good amount of vegetables as well as masala in it. I personally like the North Indian style of biryani more, so something with smaller rice may not be my first choice for a biryani, but if you're a fan of the Malaba

Majlis Al Sultan

Image
Majlis Al Sultan is a restaurant located in the Al Safa / Al Wasl area. They have free parking at the back side.  The ambience is nice and it felt like a good place as soon as we entered. Although it is not very big.  We started with the Oriental mezze . This consisted of hummus, moutabel, and pistachio labneh. The pistachio labneh was something different and nice. The hummus and moutabel were good too.  They have some interesting and refreshing drinks too. Then they prepared the avocado and halloumi salad in front of us. It certainly felt refreshing when served. It also had some rocca leaves, cherry tomato, sun dried tomato, beacon nuts, and dried fig.  We then had the cous cous salad . I'm a fan of cous cous and this looked really appealing. It had some griled vegetables, chick peas, and dried fig too, as well as chicken breast (can be removed for vegetarian variant). The chicken was a bit hard and lacked flavour. For the mains, there was mix grill w
