Bread Street Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay
When Gordon Ramsay dictates how the food is made, you can be sure it is great!
This was my first time visiting a Gordon Ramsay restaurant, thanks to a close friends of mine who is foodie, a chef and a big fan of Ramsay.
It is located in Atlantis, Palm Jumeirah which is all the more reason for you wanting to go there.
As soon as we went there, the hostess greeted us and explained us about the menu. That day they had a buffet which includes a selection of cold and hot starters, drinks, and a choice of main course.
This restaurant is inspired by British pub culture but still maintains the look and feel of a fine dine.
Among the cold starters they had quite a few sea-food items which consisted of salmon, tuna, lobster, et al.
It all looked really tempting and we just couldn't to decide where to start from.
There were the tuna devilled eggs which I found interesting. It is tuna filled inside boiled eggs. Here's how it looks:
These were really delicious, and had a generous amount of tuna in it as can bee seen in the picture.
Then we had the smoked salmon with avocado. The salmon itself was so good that it just did not need anything along with it.
Next was the lobster roll. Lobster for starters is really premium. This had a hint of spice to it and was really mouth watering!
They also had a few varieties of cheese and a few more cold starters, but I was totally lost in the lobster and just forgot what the others were.
Then they brought the hot starters to our table. These included a flatbread (topped with some yummy sauces and nuts), a fish cake, and tamarind spiced chicken wings.
These were good too.
I loved the sauce they served with the fish cake.
They wings were good and I love wings in general, but I think I needed to develop a taste for the tamarind sauce they were covered in.
The flatbread was something simple and that's the kind of things I generally like.
We ordered some drinks too.
An orange juice, a mocktail of the day, a ginger ale, and a bitter lemon.
The mocktail of the day was really good. Zesty and berrylicious, served in a tall glass.
Now was the time to order the main course, and we were really confused as to what should we order. Finally we settled on Roasted chicken along with Gordon Ramsay's famous Yorkshire Pudding served with seasonal vegetables and roasted potato with gravy, and a vegetarian special of the day.
The roasted chicken dish arrived and it looked really huge. Just by looking at it, we were almost full.
The chicken had a good flavor to it and the potato tasted a bit smokey.
I was having the yorkshire pudding for the first time, and I had really high expectations, but this I feel somehow didn't live up to it. Now don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, just that I was expecting something more extravagant.
For the vegetarian special of the day, they had pasta. It was cannelloni with white sauce, a few vegetables and lots of cheese.
The quantity for this too was huge. It was really cheesy. So much so that we could hardly get any other flavor.
We had had a lot of starters and we knew that there were delicious desserts in store waiting for us, so we skipped most of the main course and headed to the sweet endings while listening to the amazing selection of live music - mostly soft rock - that was being played.
There was the legendary sticky toffee cake, a bread butter ice-cream, an Eton Mess, and pineapple & kiwi.
All of them were just too good, and also really innovative. For example the bread butter ice-cream tasted just like bread and butter. I had never thought that bread butter would taste so good in a cold and creamy form.
These guys couldn't go wrong with the sticky toffee cake!
The pineapple and kiwi was simply cut and put together, but there was something about it that left me craving for me of this simple yet delicious dessert.
I particularly found the Eton Mess interesting. It looked like an ice cream but it wasn't one:
It had a lot of cream in it, but not creamy to the point that one would just taste cream. This dessert is made from strawberry coulis and meringue among other ingredients. Sugary, and irresistible!
