Chaat Bazaar - Al Nahda

Image
I've dined at other outlets of chaat bazaar, and I was invited to try out this newly opened one. We had one of their chaat combos - the Chaat Bazar in a box . It contains masala pav, batata vada, bhel puri, punjabi papdi chaat, delhi dahi bhalla, goan basket, kolkatta ghugni chaat, gulab jamun. The masala pav tasted good but was more like a pav bhaji itself. The dahi bhalla was average. I loved the kolkatta ghugni. The bhel puri had become a tad bit soggy. We also had their kashmiri pakoda rolls . These were cheesy on the inside and crispy on the outside. We totally enjoyed them. One of their fusion items is the dabeli tacos . As the name suggests, it is the dabeli masala inside a taco. It is an interesting combination to try out. Something that made me pleasantly surprised was the karak mojito . It is basically iced karak tea. I personally loved it. If you're a fan of karak chai and like experimenting, then this might be your cup of tea !

Thambapanni - Sri Lankan cuisine

Thambapanni is a recently rebranded and revamped Sri Lankan restaurant which was taken over by a new management. They invited me to try out their food. We started with one of the famous Sri Lankan juices - the wood apple juice . It is a fruit that is very hard to find in UAE and is found in very few places around the world. It has a bit of musky and spicy flavour to it. You might have to develop a taste for it, but I really liked it as I had had it earlier. Sri Lankans have a various buns as small bites, and the restaurant has these too. They got us the fish bun , and the chicken bun which were really nice.  The chicken roll too was quite good. My favourite perhaps was the seeni sambol . This is a bun filled with spiced caramelized onions. It has a sweet and spicy flavour to it and you should surely check it out. Seeni Sambol in the background A street food item that's very popular is the Kottu roti . It is made by chopping Sri Lankan flatbread, and adding spices and veget...

Masala Wok

As you must have guessed from the name, this restaurant serves Indian as well as Indo-Chinese cuisine. I was invited to try out their food.  The interiors are colourful and have a desi feel to it. We started with a nice welcome drink which was refreshing and had a berry flavour to it.  We started with some really nice soups. I liked the talumein chicken soup which we had with some noodles on top, as well as the lemon coriander soup .  The dragon chicken looked really good and tasted nice too. Though it was just a starter, it was a little saucy which I liked.  Chinese bhel had a good taste to it, but nothing extra-ordinary. I felt they could have done more with it.  The chicken wontons looked appealing and were really crunchy, and the filling was good too.  I like prawns in general and I was looking forward to the tandoori prawns when they got us some. These tasted average, and were a bit dry for my liking.  The chef's ...
