Chemex Lab - Books and Coffee

Image
Want to read some books while sipping on your coffee? This is the place you're looking for. They not only have some good coffees, but also a mini library of sorts there.  For the coffees they have various drips like chemex, v60, tower drip and more. As soon as you enter, you get a lovely aroma of the coffee beans. The ambience is dimly lit, and that gives a very cozy feel to it. (I haven't been there during the day, when it might be brighter.) I wanted a cold brew , and they have these pre-made in bottles. They come with a skull mark on it, so you can guess how strong they are. They're made from beans from Nigaracua .  Also, the ice that they use is metallic which is really fantastic, since it does not water down the coffee.  A post shared by Famished Explorer [ UDIT ] (@uditss) on Apr 5, 2018 at 5:29am PDT We also had the magic which is steamed milk poured over double ristretto. This one was quite good too.  Last but not the leas...

Coffee Lab

This isn't just another café, but they know their coffee well. They've got different types of beans and if you're looking for one that has a particular amount of acidity or body to it, they can recommend it to you.  They've got different types of coffeemakers like the chemex , V60 etc.  We had a flat white which we really liked. It was served in a nice glass cup.  A post shared by Famished Explorer [ UDIT ] (@uditss) on Jan 28, 2018 at 10:39pm PST I had a cold brew which wasn't too bad either.  As far as coffee is concerned, the flavor varies greatly depending on what exactly you order, so I can't comment on all the coffees that they have here.  This place is located in the newly started port Rashid area which itself is really beautiful, and you get a good view from here. That would be my primary reason to visit this place.  A post shared by Famished Explorer [ UDIT ] (@uditss) on Jan 30, 2018 at 10:41pm PST T...

Drop Dubai

Image
We're always on the lookout for a good coffee place, and after looking for some new places online, the name 'Drop' seemed really catchy, so we decided to check it out.  You get the aroma of coffee even before you enter the cafe, and the feeling is heavenly.  Their speciality is the slow brewed coffe, and so we ordered the cold chemex pour over . This one was really good. Poured over ice, I really enjoyed it.  In the mood for some regular hot coffee, my friend ordered a cappuccino . This one wasn't all that good, and we didn't quite like it.  Wanting something sweet, we decided to order a brownie too; chose the fudge brownie . It tasted okay. It was just a tiny piece, and priced at AED 12, which we did not find worth it at all.  The ambiance though was good. I think it was the aroma that I really liked. Also, the seating is innovative. They've got tables for two like the one pictured below, and stools too.  The place was a bit crowded...

Breaking Bad

Image
If you're a fan of Breaking Bad , then this coffee shop is a must visit. The theme is that of a Chemistry lab, and the name is based on the name of the lead character in the series - Walter White , who is a Chemistry professor (and more) - hence the name Walter's Coffee Roastery . There's a coffee maker in the shape of a chemistry apparatus called the chemex . This has filters made of bonded paper which remove most of the coffee oils making the taste different than other coffee making systems.  You can choose which coffee (beans) you'd like and they can make it for you using the chemex . The best part of this is that they also perform a dry ice show for you giving the real feel of a lab.  I was overjoyed with this and almost ended up addressing the barista as "Heisenberg" (if you know what I mean). Here's a little video I shot: We chose the Colombian beans as we wanted something with less acidic content. The aromas were great and so was th...
