Zen - Streetery Foodhall - Asian Street Food

Image
Zen is a restaurant that is a part of the Streetery Foodhall in JLT, and is among the three restaurants here that I was invited to.  I'm a fan of Malaysian cuisine and we started with the Mee Goreng which is a dish consisting of stir fried noodles that are done Malaysian style. They were a tad bit oily, but tasted really delicious. The Malaysian spices gave it an authentic flavour.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Famished Explorer [ UDIT ] (@uditss) on Jan 30, 2019 at 5:17am PST The next dish was the schezwan chicken wonton . Delicious chicken dumplings that were really flavourful, and a bit on the spicier side.  Then we had the Thai green curry with rice. This tasted really comforting and had a lovely aroma to it just the way you would find it when you have street food. We had it along with steamed rice.  For dessert we had the mango sticky rice . The mango was juicy and sweet, and the rice was a bit sticker...

Betawi - Indonesian street food in karama

Image
This is a small Indonesian restaurant in karama. It is not an upmarket place, but it has a very homely feel to it and I really liked that. The food too is presented in a homely way without any frills and tastes so too. We started with the tahu isi which is a tofu based dish. The tofu is fried and can be filled with various ingredients (and/or meat) based on your preference. I liked the taste of this one, and it tasted great with the sauces that they give you on the side. On that note, the sambal here was really spicy the way it is supposed to be. It wasn't toned down like a lot of other places do, so have it sparingly. The next one was the bakwan goreng . It is a fried snack that looks like Indian bhajjiyas . They're fried vegetable fritters. The taste was not bad but it was very chewy and got really hard within a few minutes. I'm not sure if it was meant to be that way, but we didn't enjoy it much. For our mains, we called for one Mi Goreng which ar...

Asia Tang

Image
The name "Asia Tang" gave me a feeling that it's a casual Asian restaurant that would have nice food, and when they invited me, I was really looking forward to check it out. I had gone with a vegetarian friend of mine, so there are a lot of things that are suitable for vegetarians in this review (colour coded green for veg and red for non-veg).  When I went here, it was just like I expected. The interiors were even better with an earthy feel to it. There are plants everywhere and it feels so fresh. The interiors would make it a perfect place for a relaxed lunch on a weekend.  The staff serves you with a smile and it is something that really makes for a good experience.  Before I tell you what I ate, I would like to point out the fact they instead of giving fancy names to the dishes, they've named them easy to understand; often even just making a name based on the ingredients that go into making the dish, and that right are extra brownie point from my sid...
