Rangoli Vegetarian Restaurant

This is a pure vegetarian restaurant that has really delicious food.  I was invited here for the Monday Thali Madness . Every Monday they have unlimited Gujrati thali for AED 23. The thali had 2 types of dal, kadhi, corn spinach, gatte ki sabzi, and potato sabzi. Apart from that there was a samosa and dhokla, a chaat (bhel), and two sweets. They also get you hot phulkas and puris. Gatte ki sabzi was delicious, and the dals too. I really enjoyed the thali a lot. Apart from that we also tried a few chaat items here.  We started with the pani puri , then we had the sev puri which was on the spicier side and really good. We also tried the dahi puri which was nice.  I especially liked the samosa chaat that I had here. The chole in it was lovely and the samosa had a nice taste to it too. At the e...

Rajdhani

It is the festive season of Diwali I was invited for their exclusive Diwali Preview. As soon as I entered, I noticed that it was huge and spacious. Even on a weekend, it wasn't hard to get a table. Parking though, can be a bit of a hassle on weekends.  As their tagline goes "ek khandani parampara", you get the feel from the very beginning when they help you wash your hands using a surai .  I noticed the thali has more katoris (bowls) than usual, and I was eagerly waiting to see the wide variety.  They started with a couple of starters. The kulfi dhokla and the bikaneri ghugra . The kulfi dhokla is so called because it is shaped like a kulfi. It was served with a few chutneys (sauces) and tasted really nice.  The bikaneri ghugra was something I totally loved. It is shaped like a gujia, but has a savory filling inside.  For the Indian breads they had a few types. A phulka , which is served hot and fresh, a bhakri , on which they insisted put...

Saravanna Bhavan

Saravanna Bhavan is one of the famous names in South Indian food, and I've been there quite often. This time I visited their Barsha outlet. This one too has the look and feel of the other outlets, and gives you a feeling that you've come to an authentic South Indian place.  It was afternoon and it was fairly easy to find a parking spot.  We ordered a Thali and a special Biryani . The thali consists of sambhar, a dry vegetable, 3 vegetables with gravy, rasam, buttermilk and a sweet. There is also poori & rice with it, and papad & pickle. They serve it the traditional way, i.e. on a banana leaf. The banana leaf though is placed inside a plate since many aren't used to eating it that way.  The thali is really delicious and also very healthy.  After this, the biryani felt a bit out of place. The biryani was more of a spicy pulav. It had some dry fruits, paneer, and mushrooms in it. It tasted very good, but a little different from what I'd expect for...
