Five Star restaurant - Sharjah

Image
Don't be fooled by the name of the place. It is a pocket friendly multi-cuisine restaurant. They've got Indian, Arabic, and Indo-Chinese. They got us some refreshing drinks. I really liked their strawberry lassi . We started with the Arabic salad platter . This has tabbouleh, fattoush, hummus, moutabel, and vine leaves. It was nice and fresh. Everything tasted good. The vine leaves were warm as opposed to the cold ones that you usually get, but tasted really nice nonetheless.  Then we had some cheese balls . These were also stuffed with some potatoes and were quite good. This has prawns, fish, lobster, and mussels. Since we didn't want mussels, they replaced it with a bigger fish. They suggested the lobster in manchurian s...

Sofreh - Iranian food

Image
We were in the mood for some middle Eastern food and saw this place in JLT.  When we went there, we saw that they serve Iranian food too. We started with the Mirza Ghasemi which is a dish made from charred eggplant, slow roasted tomato, garlic sauce, poached eggs. The combination sounded a little weird but it tasted great. The taste of the eggs wasn't over-powering. Next was a soupy dish - Ash . This contains whole wheat noodles, fresh herbs, lentils and cured yogurt. I've had it in another restaurant so I knew what to expect. It is topped with garlic chips and crispy onions which really adds to the flavour. It's something like an Iranian version of a lentil soup. It is a bit thick, and we had it with the hot bread that they served. Kubideh is a famour Iranian kebab and we had the kubideh wrap . The flavour of the meat was really nice. It was served along with some garlic sauce and pickles.  The service was good too.

The Meating Room - Karama

I recently was invited to this restaurant to try out their new menu. I had visited them a long time ago, and this time there were some new delicious dishes.  The place isn't very big and has about 4-5 tables indoors. There is more seating outdoors though.  In this summer we had to try out their kala khatta and lemon ginger mocktails which are really refreshing.  While the food was being prepared, we munched on some fryums. For the appetisers, we started with the po-tay-to po-tah-to . This is basically a meat stuffed potato patty. Being a huge fan of potato this was just heavenly for me. It was soft and very flavourful. You should totally try it.  The chicken and cheese croquettes were also really good. If you like something cheesy, then this is a nice choice. They're served with schezwan sauce. We had an assortment of grills too. The psychedelic lamb chops were perhaps my favourite. They're soft, yet well done; served with tzatziki dip, gri...

Charbone Grill

Looking for a grills place that's easy on your pocket? This one is a very good option. I was invited here to try out the food.  This isn't a very big place but not too small either. The interiors are average.  They have various combos at a reasonable price. I tried the chicken one which is for AED 47. This is an all-you-can-eat combo. It includes a wide variety of starters. There was Chicken achari, chicken malai, Turkish chicken, chicken tikka , and bihari chicken . I really liked the Bihari chicken and the Turkish chicken. The spices that these were made in were really good. The others were not bad to taste but felt a tad bit dry.  For the mains we had chicken kadhai . It was prepared really well, and the semi-dry gravy had a good flavour to it. You can opt for the butter chicken if you like instead of this one.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Famished Explorer [ UDIT ] (@uditss) on Aug 28, 2019 at 5:23am PDT ...

Back to Grills - Asian grills and bbq restaurant

Image
I'm sure most of us love grills, and when I was invited here, I was looking forward to see what are their offerings and the concept. The place is small though cozy, and their menu is a bit different from most of the "grill" places that I've come across.  Before our food arrived, they got us some chinese bhel to munch on. Crunchy, and a hint of spicy and sweet to it.  We started with the veg platter which has some interesting items in it. The one which I totally enjoyed was the soya chhaap. These were soft and really flavourful. There were also the cottage cheese pineapple skewers which were nice, veg brochettes, smoked baby corn, and cream cheese almond broccoli which were also quite good.  They gave a roomali roti along with this which was soft and hot, and goes well with the soya chhaap. For the non-veg starters I had the lamb boti . The lamb was prepared really well in what they call Nawab's secret spices. It is slow cooked on char-grill. Yo...

Roda Grill

This place has a nice interior which has a classic feel to it. The wooden interiors coupled with the dim lighting give an upmarket feel to it. A friend of mine invited me here to try out the food.  As we ordered our food, they got us some fresh bread. They were soft and hot, and tasted great with some pesto.  For our appetizer, we ordered the smoked salmon . This was Scottish salmon which was served along with pickled cornichons, silver onions, caper & horseradish cream. The salmon tasted fantastic and the flavours of this dish were complementing each other very well.  The other appetizer was an interesting one. It was fresh burrata and beet hummus . The burrata was creamy and the beet hummus appealed to your taste-buds too. It was garnished with pomegranate seeds and rocca leaves.  For our mains, we tried one of the house specials - the Angus beef and mushroom pie . This was cooked in a brown gravy that was flavourful, although not overpowering....
