Shakey's Pizza
Shakey's is an American fast food restaurant started in the 1950's. It has only recently come to the UAE with its first branch opening near Burjuman on 5th of July 2018.
This is a concept that I can loosely translate as something in between a KFC and a pizza hut. They have great fried chicken, and great pizzas too.
This place is two-storeyed; with seating being on the ground as well as the first floor. It might not look very big from the outside, but there sure is ample dining space inside.
They've got some salads too and we started with the Tuna Caesar salad. It was nice to see Tuna in the Caesar salad for a change. As far as the taste is concerned, the salad was about good enough.
Then we had their famous mojos. They have the mojo potatoes which are fried using their secret recipe. Being a potato lover, I really liked these. I found them to be similar to the Indian potato bhajiyas.
Then we had one of their bestselling appetisers - the fried chicken. The good thing about this was that the pieces was bigger than usual; they were juicy and meaty too. The chicken was well fried overall.
Moving on to some pastas, we had the Carbonara Supreme. It has creamy white sauce over it with beef bacon & ham, mushrooms, and Parmesan cheese. It was a bit too bland for my taste and I didn't find it to be great.
It is served with garlic bread which was pretty good though. It was crispy and flavourful.
We had the "Manager's Choice" Pizza which is their hot sellers, and we totally liked it. It contains beef, sausages, bell peppers and onion. I think it was the thin crust that made us like it even more.
The other pizza that we had was the garden fresh which is a vegetarian pizza that contains fresh veggies like tomatoes, bell peppers, mushrooms, onion and garlic. Despite it containing no meat, we really seemed to like it a lot.
If you're sitting on the section at the top, you can also see them making the pizza from the see-through glass kitchen.
The story behind the name Shakey's is that the founder Sherwood Johnson had become shakey after the nerve damage that he suffered due to Malaria in the world war II, and that's what his friends started calling him.
