Hitchki - Indian cuisine with a firangi twist

Image
The name Hitchki means a hiccup in Hindi; and in the Indian tradition is also associated when someone remembers you. So this resturant basically aims to serve food that you'd remember for a long time even after going back. The concept itself is something interesting. It is a restaurant within a restaurant - located inside Bazxar - but a separate entity in itself. They're a chain from Mumbai and are opening soon (as of writing this blogpost) in the Dubai market. They serve Indian fusion cuisine, but keeping in mind that the main essence of the dish isn't lost and retains a desi flavor to it. We were invited here for the pre-launch and were glad to try out this concept. We started off with the cocktails, one of which was called "Geeta Babita" and the other one being Drunken Nimboo Soda. I loved the drunked nimboo soda . It is zesty, and you'll feel like you're having the refreshing Indian lemon soda, but with a twist of rum and a hint of orange bi...

Smoqoholic

Image
This place is just a hop, skip, and jump from my house and has been the talk of the town for sometime recently. We were celebrating a friend's birthday and wanted a place with shisha, so we thought what better place than to try out this one. It was a weekend, and they do not take reservations. After reading the reviews, I was a bit skeptical as to whether we'll get a place there, but thankfully the wait was just about ten minutes before we got a table.  The Chicken pani puri was something I definitely had to try. They took one of the most favorite Indian street food item and added chicken to it; it just got better.  The puri has a small piece of chicken in it, and big pieces of chicken beside it. Those big pieces are finger-licking good. The sweet chutney and the mint water are served in pipettes and you can add as much as you like (but this quantity felt less for the pani puri frankly). Nonetheless, overall we really liked it very much. Next we tried the...

Going Social with Desserts

Image
I'm sure we've all seen Social House in Dubai mall and how inviting it looks. We decided to try out the desserts here. We went there late afternoon and there weren't too many people. You sat at a corner table overlooking the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai fountains.  The look and feel of this place is earthy. They've got trees inside and lots of use of wood with a golden / brown theme.  The service was a bit slow and it took a few minutes before they gave us a menu. The attentiveness of the staff in general could have been better.  They've got a separate menu for desserts and they've got quite a few interesting ones in there and it was a task to choose. We finally settled for the four below:  Mississippi mud pie : When I'm in the mood for something chocolatey but not too sweet, this would be my choice. This one was really amazing. It was a bit grainy and coarse and you could taste the chocolate, and at the same time not overly sweet. It comes wi...

Zaroob

Image
Zaroob is a well known name among Arabic restaurants. I've been to their other outlets and the food was good.  As soon as we entered, I noticed that the staff is friendly. One of my friend was vegetarian and she wanted to check if they've got enough choice of vegetarian food. The staff was glad to help and explained all the items that are available in vegetarian.  We started off with hummus and a stuffed falafel, along with a lemonade.  The hummus tasted really good, and the quantity was good too. Zaroob being Zaroob , they get their hummus right.  This stuffed falafel came along with tahina sauce, and khaboos, parsley, and pickled radish. When you have it all together, it tastes great; a tad bit dry though.  The lemonade was served in a nice mason jar.  They had foul (chick peas) too; and one of the dishes is foul jar . The name looked interesting. They actually serve this in a jar. It looks like some dish served during the olden days....

Benjarong - Dusit Thani

Image
Benjarong is an award winning thai restaurant located on the 24th level in Dusit Thani. Not only does it serve amazing Thai food, but this one also has a fantastic view. The interiors are classy, and there is also live instrumental music being played. I was invited by this restaurant, and was excited to be there.  We were spoilt for choice. We went in the first week of September and they had a special menu that had some additional items apart from the usual too.  We started off with some drinks and a salad - an interesting one - the green papaya salad with blue crab . This was something out of the box. The waiter asked if we were okay with spicy; we were. Now this was something unusual for a salad. When served, we saw that it had chopped chili in it and it really brought about the flavor well. It also had tiny shrimp in it.  A post shared by UDIT . S .
