Smoqoholic

This place is just a hop, skip, and jump from my house and has been the talk of the town for sometime recently. We were celebrating a friend's birthday and wanted a place with shisha, so we thought what better place than to try out this one.

It was a weekend, and they do not take reservations. After reading the reviews, I was a bit skeptical as to whether we'll get a place there, but thankfully the wait was just about ten minutes before we got a table.

The Chicken pani puri was something I definitely had to try. They took one of the most favorite Indian street food item and added chicken to it; it just got better.  The puri has a small piece of chicken in it, and big pieces of chicken beside it. Those big pieces are finger-licking good. The sweet chutney and the mint water are served in pipettes and you can add as much as you like (but this quantity felt less for the pani puri frankly). Nonetheless, overall we really liked it very much.

Next we tried the Seafood Trio soup. There's foam in a bowl, and the soup is poured over it in front of you. It is served with a bread-stick on the side. We couldn't really wait to sip this wonderful looking thing. Sadly, we didn't quite like it as opposed to most reviews here. There was less seafood in the soup and had a weird taste; unlike what seafood soup should be like.

After this came the momos. Cliched? Okay, the Steam basket. This tasted really good. The sauces enhanced the flavor of the dumplings and they got over in no time! We really liked these.

Seeing the name Pizza Obsession we couldn't stop ourselves from ordering this one. It has four types of pizzas with lots of cheese. Two of them were really good; the other two were okay (one of which was a bit hard). Not something I'd obsess over.

Something that looks like a shawarma is almost irresistible. So we ordered the Cashew Chicken with rice. The chicken was good, but wasn't all that soft. On the other hand, the rice and the dal makhani serve with it tasted delicious. The quantity of rice and dal is very minimal since it is just a side along with the chicken.

Before moving on to the tempting desserts, we decided to have some shisha. First we had the blueberry chocolate mint shisha. I like all these flavors and this combination tasted good together as well. After a while we asked for a head change (flavor change) and had the Paan Pomegranate shisha. This one is a catchy combination and tasted good in the beginning; but later it was just okay.

Then we called for some tea. This one was served with honey on the side and had a lovely aroma to it.

Now coming to the part I was waiting eagerly for - the Devil's Island. This one is a treat for your eyes, especially since they make it in front of you. It's got the heart shaped chocolate places above strawberries, and some cold and smokey delicacies. They torch the chocolate with a lighter and it starts to melt in front of you, and then they pour some more melted chocolate on it. Here's how they make it:

Looks delicious, doesn't it?
But is it worth the hype? No. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, but for something that looks so pleasing to the eyes, the taste doesn't quite live up to it. The chocolate is hard to break using your spoon and all the ingredients don't seem to blend in too well. You end up eating each of it separately and the taste seems to get lost somewhere.

The restaurant places their orders using an iPad (which is common these days, I know), but the interesting part is that you can see the total amount of the food that you've ordered until then, and so you know what's your bill going to be like.

There was live music intermittently and songs were requested by people. This particular day there were Bollywood songs from the 90's and 00's and this gave a very desi feel to the place.

For a place that serves food with such a high visual appeal, the prices are extremely pocket friendly, but they can certainly do better with the way it tastes.
