Tanatan

This is a newly started restaurant located near Burjuman. The name itself will tell you that it has a desi feel to it. It also has a upmarket feel though. The interiors are dimly lit and the place also has a live band performing.
A friend invited me here to try out the food.

We sat in the are beside the stage. It feels a bit secluded from the rest of it, and I'm not someone who likes crowd, so we sat here. It was pretty quiet then as the live band was yet to start playing. Also, it was a weekday.

They have some interesting cocktails; not only the name but also the presentation and the taste.
The first one was the paan ki shaan. This is a vodka based cocktail that has paan syrup, pineapple, sour mix, and is smoked with dried spices. It felt refreshing and totally felt like I was drinking paan (if that's possible).

The next cocktail was called chai on a high. This is a vodka based cocktail too and has pear syrup, sour mix, pineapple juice and color changing blue tea. This looked like a regular cocktail and did taste quite good.

For our appetizers, we started with the murgh bharwan lahori. This is chicken in chicken! Yeah, it is boneless chicken that has minced chicken inside. Initially I thought that it might be a lot of chicken, but that wasn't the case; it tasted fantastic. Any chicken lover must definitely try it. It is served with chutney on the side.

Next was the dal vadai chatar platter. This is the south Indian dal vada. It is served with spiced hummus. I wonder how they made such a simple dish taste so good. Despite not being a big dal vada fan, I really like it. It was crispy and the hummus tasted great.

The staff recommended us the khow suey samosa. It looked really interesting when served and we couldn't wait to try it out. i took a bite and had mixed feelings. It was not bad. I could get the Asian taste of khow suey, and the Indian taste of the samosa, but it just did not feel like it belonged together. It was perhaps the only dish here which I found just okay.

We then moved on to the mains. We had the classic dish - butter chicken. I must say it was delicious. The gravy was just right, the chicken  was cooked to perfection, and the taste too was just mildly sweetish; just the way I like it.

The other main dish was the laal maas. This is mutton cooked in a spicy red gravy. The mutton was soft and prepared really well. The gravy was just spicy enough to feel the heat and I loved the flavour.

We had this with butter roti, and I also ordered the sunny side up appam which caught my attention. This was definitely something interesting. It isn't available as a stand-alone dish but as a set (sunny side appam + chicken sukha)

For dessert, we had badam pista phirni which was mildly sweet and had a good consistency to it.

The one that I really liked though was the gulab jamun with rabdi. It is a great combination and both the items tasted nice individually too. The gulab jamuns were soft and hot, and the rabdi complemented the flavour well.

There was a live band playing too, and I especially liked it since it wasn't too loud when we had gone. They were also taking requests and playing some really good slow latest Bollywood songs.

The staff member serving us was Gajanan and he took good care of us. He explained us the dishes well and served with a smile.
