A friend of mine suggested this place as there was a particular dish that he wanted to have here.

 It was a weekend and it was quite crowded. We went about 8:30pm and got a table on the spot, although any later and we'd have to wait to be seated.

 We started with the chicken manchow soup. It was spicy and delicious; served with crispy fried noodles on the side.

 Along with it, we asked for a portion of masala papad. This was below average and I didn't enjoy it much.

 For our appetisers, we had the chicken gilafi sheekh which was really very good. It was soft and had a nice peppery flavour.

 We then ordered a mutton khichadi. Very few places serve this and that's what we came here for. The mutton was soft and the khichadi was nice. It had a very homely flavour to it.

 I also had a dahi puri which was made really well, with a good amount of filling inside it.

 They have something called as cocktail shots which is an assortment of various beverages. You get jal jeera, pudina sherbat, sweet lassi, gajar ki kanji, and mango lassi. This is nice to order if you're unable to decide which beverages to order and want a taste of them all.

 We sat upstairs and just one of the air-conditioners was working. The place was full that day and it just wasn't cooling enough. I was sweating throughout my meal which wasn't a pleasant experience.

This is a Brazilian brand which has 200 outlets worldwide and has recently started in Dubai with 8 outlets. They invited me to try out their outlet in Citywalk. Most of their outlets here are kiosks but this is a comparatively bigger one. The ambience is nice and they've used a green and purple colour scheme which gives a bit of a earthy vibe.  You can customize your acai bowl or smoothie with the various ingredients that they have.  We took one with Acai, chia seeds, almonds, hazelnut, and strawberry. It was nice and healthy, although colder than usual. If you have it quickly, you might get a brain-freeze.  In the other one we had acai with condensed milk, strawberry, almonds and chia seeds. I liked the flavour of the condensed milk in this one.  It's a good place especially if you like to have something healthy.  Click here to salivate

Humpty Dumpty - desi Chinese

This is a small place located in Karama, and my friends took me there. Initially I was a apprehensive as to how this place might be, but it didn't seem to be all that bad.  We were five of us, and moderately hungry.  We ordered the Schezwan sixer . This is a combo which contains 1 portion of each: fried rice, noodles, chicken gravy, soup, Chinese bhel, chicken lollipop . This costs just about AED 50. The above combo is also available in a vegetarian option which costs around 40 AED.   We started with the soup which I really liked. It was the manchow soup which was spicy and tangy. The chinese bhel was okay. It wasn't so crunchy, and neither did it have a very good taste.  The chicken lollipop wasn't too bad; it were fairly good. Baku food : What did I eat in Azerbaijan?

Azerbaijani food has a lot of Middle Eastern influence, and a lot of dishes are variations of those you get in the Middle East. There were a few good local restaurants I visited, and a few others too. I'm going to talk about all of these in this post.  The name of the dishes may be a bit different in Azeri (language), and some might just be a translation / description of the dish. You can click on the name of the restaurant to get the exact location.   Burc Qala [well known for Azeri cuisine]:- This is located in the heart of the city - Icheri Shehr (which means Old City). While walking through the old forts in this area, we came across this restaurant. The interiors feel really traditional. Also, a lot of shades of red are used. Here, I had the qutab , which is a very famous local dish; more of a snack. It is made from thinly rolled dough, and has filling inside. It usually has two variants - minced meat, and mixed greens.
