Grub Shack - Indian fusion

Image
I've been wanting to go here since a long time but due to some reason I never ended up going, until this day when a friend of mine invited me here.  The place really has a nice vibe to it. They had live music on the Tuesday when we went. The tables and chairs have an earthy wooden feel.  We started with some of their mocktails. They first got us the jack frost . This is basically a virgin pina colada but light blue in colour, served with smoke around it. I love pina colada and I liked this even better.  The other one was the mango chili and this blew my mind. It had a nice consistency to it; wasn't too watery or toot thick. The chili definitely added that kick to it.  For appetisers, we started with the double dragon king prawns . These prawns were huge, spicy, and crispy. The sauce that it was prepared in gave an Indo-Chinese flavour to it. Being a fan of prawns, I could barely keep my hands off it.  View this post on Instagram ...

Indian Kitchen - JLT

Image
This restaurant serves Indian as well as Indo-Chinese cuisine that that we were invited to try out.  The ambience is just about average and perhaps that is one thing which put me off. They could do so much better.  We started with some beverages. I liked the jal jeera which had soda in it. The mango lassi was good too. Not overly sweet or thick. For starters we had a non veg platter . I really liked the fish tikka in it. It was soft and flavourful. The mutton seekh was also really good. It could have been a bit softer but nothing to complain about. The chicken tikka was not bad either.  In the vegetarian platter , the hara bhara kebab was good, and so was the cauliflower. However, I did not like the mushroom; this had a weird taste to it.  The chicken lollipop was crispy and the chicken tasted good too, especially along with the sauce that was served.  The chili chicken not only looked tempting but also tasted good. It was really spicy an...

Mumbai Express - vegetarian street food

Image
I have been a regular here, and it is one of our go-to places when we're craving for vegetarian snacks. They have completed 7 years, and this time they invited me to try out their food. Most of the times when I go there, it is hard to decide what to have since everything looks so tempting. I started with the masala pav which is one of my favourite here. I personally love the generous amount of masala that they put in and on the pav, and really liked this. If you don't like too much of the masala, then perhaps you may not like it too much. Also, it is a bit on the spicier side. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Famished Explorer [ UDIT ] (@uditss) on Apr 17, 2019 at 2:55am PDT We then had the onion rava masala dosa . It was crispy since we had asked for it to be made that way. It is served along with 2 types of chutneys and sambar. Having had a lot of their South Indian items, I can say that they are really good. Then we ordered...

Exotica - Indo Chinese

Image
This is an Indo-Chinese restaurant that has some really good dishes apart from the ones you get at most of the Indo-Chinese restaurants, and I was invited to try out their offerings.  They have seating indoors as well as outdoors. We started with the crab meat soup which was mildly spicy, and the flavours of the crab were really good combined with the egg and coriander. They recommended us the crispy spinach as one of their specials. You can have it with your choice of meat which is served on the side. We had ours with chicken which was made tangy and a little bit spicy. Although the spinach was the more interesting one. It is thinly chopped and crispy fried; it has a bit of a sweetish flavour to it. I really liked it initially but then it felt a bit too sweet for my liking. Not too many Chinese places have sizzlers, but this one does. We had the mix sea-food Teriyaki sizzlers . These were made with prawns and fish (we aksed for the mussels to be removed), and it tas...

Estrellas Rooftop Poolside Lounge

Image
This is a poolside lounge that's located in Melia hotel at the rooftop. They invited me to try out the food here. They have an outdoor seating area as well as one indoor, both of which are smoking areas. We started with some cocktails. The first one was the mango mojito . It was my first time to try this one and it did taste really good. It's good for those who don't want a very lemony mojito. The other one was called Devil . It was a unique combination of watermelon and chili along with vodka. It was served in a glass along with two chillies on the side to make it look like devil ears. I really found this interesting and the spicy flavor was nice. It's not like your regular cocktail, so if you like to try something new, then only order it. We got a mixed non-veg platter for the starters. Me favorite one among this was the lamb seekh . It was made really well and was flavorful. On the other hand, the chicken seekh wasn't all that good. The l...
