Exotica - Indo Chinese
This is an Indo-Chinese restaurant that has some really good dishes apart from the ones you get at most of the Indo-Chinese restaurants, and I was invited to try out their offerings. They have seating indoors as well as outdoors.
We started with the crab meat soup which was mildly spicy, and the flavours of the crab were really good combined with the egg and coriander.
They recommended us the crispy spinach as one of their specials. You can have it with your choice of meat which is served on the side. We had ours with chicken which was made tangy and a little bit spicy. Although the spinach was the more interesting one. It is thinly chopped and crispy fried; it has a bit of a sweetish flavour to it. I really liked it initially but then it felt a bit too sweet for my liking.
Not too many Chinese places have sizzlers, but this one does. We had the mix sea-food Teriyaki sizzlers. These were made with prawns and fish (we aksed for the mussels to be removed), and it tasted delicious. It tasted so good with the teriyaki sauce that I was barely able to keep my hands off it. The teriyaki sauce really brings about the flavours in it.
Since I'm a fan of spicy, whenever I see "sambal" on the menu, it grabs my attention. Here, it was the sambal olek chicken. We just had to try this one. The chicken was cooked well and the taste was pretty good. It looked really spicy when served, but wasn't as spicy when we had it.
Along with that, we had the dan mein noodles which sounded interesting and something different from the regular Indo-Chinese noodles that we have. These are stir-fried noodles that are mildly spiced, and were served garnished with julienned cucumber.
For our beverages, we had the silk road and the blue caracao. The silk road is ginger and lemon based and I really enjoyed this one.
The restaurant wasn't too busy since it was a weekday, and the service was fast too.
They didn't have a couple of items like the fish ball soup, and the lotus stem which we were eagerly looking forward to.
If you're looking for Indo-Chinese which has some different options than the usual, then this is a really good option.
