Rangoli Vegetarian Restaurant

Image
This is a pure vegetarian restaurant that has really delicious food.  I was invited here for the Monday Thali Madness . Every Monday they have unlimited Gujrati thali for AED 23. The thali had 2 types of dal, kadhi, corn spinach, gatte ki sabzi, and potato sabzi. Apart from that there was a samosa and dhokla, a chaat (bhel), and two sweets. They also get you hot phulkas and puris. Gatte ki sabzi was delicious, and the dals too. I really enjoyed the thali a lot. Apart from that we also tried a few chaat items here.  We started with the pani puri , then we had the sev puri which was on the spicier side and really good. We also tried the dahi puri which was nice.  I especially liked the samosa chaat that I had here. The chole in it was lovely and the samosa had a nice taste to it too. At the e...

Shri Krishna Bhavan

We were looking for a good breakfast place on a weekend early morning and since this opens early, we decided to check this out.  They have some interesting menu options and we tried some of the Andhra specialities.  We starred with the gunta punugulu which is basically paniyaram. They were soft on the inside and crispy outside; served with coconut chutney which made it even more flavourful. Next, I had the upma pesarattu . I've had these two separately but was my first time having ti together. It does taste great as a combination too.  Then we had the Karnataka combo tiffin . This has a mangalore bun, akki roti, rava idly, khara bhath, kesari bhath, and coffee. I really liked the managalore bun. It was fresh and slightly sweet.  The akki roti had some nice flavours to it, especially when had with the yellow curry along with it.  The filter coffee no doubt was very good as expected.  It did get quite crowded by the time we were done.  Overall, i...

Swades - Indian vegetarian snacks

Image
It was a weekend and we were looking for a quick bite so we ended up going here.  It's not a very big place but they have a good variety of options on the menu. We started with the aloo cheese onion paratha . The cheese in the paratha was melted and we couldn't see the cheese in it. We asked for more, and they were happy to give us some extra cheese. The taste of the paratha was quite good.  I ordered a dahi kachori chaat , and it was really flavourful with ample amount of dahi in it. The ragda pattice too was good enough. I would have liked the pattice itself to have more flavour but nothing to complain about.  Last, but not the least, we had a nice cuppa chai .  The service is fast, and the staff is friendly.  Our server got us the bill without asking for it, which I didn't quite like.  Click here for delicious food and lovely places around Dubai.

Burmese Noodles (Khow Suey) - Vegan Recipe

Image
This is one of the recipes by my mom which I totally love and I'm glad to share it here. This is a Vegan version which uses coconut milk. You can substitute it for regular milk if you don't want it vegan.  Also, the main curry is totally oil-free. Oil is used only in the garnish.  Ingredients: 5 cups boiled noodles For the tomato paste: 2 tomatoes, 2 onions, 5 cloves garlic, 2 tbsp chopped ginger, 3 green chillies, 1/2 tspn turmeric powder, salt to taste Grind the above ingredients into a smooth paste. For the curry: 6 cups chopped mixed vegetables (carrot, cabbage, french beans, cauliflower, green peas) 400 ml coconut milk 1 1/2 tbsp besan (gram flour) salt to taste Method for the curry: Mix the gram flour in the coconut milk evenly so that no lumps are formed. Keep aside. Heat a pan and pour the tomato paste in it. Let it cook for 5-7 mins. Pour the chopped mixed vegetables, and add the salt. Pour 4-5 cups of water and let the vegetab...

Indian by Nature

Image
Was looking out for vegetarian places to go and came across this one online so decided to check it out.  The photos of the ambience looked interesting and it actually was this way in reality. It is a nice decor which gives it a colourful and contemporary feel. We started with a portion of masala papad.  They also give complimentary fried papads before your meal. We jumped in to the mains directly.  We had the sev tamatar ki sabji which is a famous dish in western India. The one served here wasn't exactly as expected. The sev was a bit thinner than what is used. The taste wasn't bad though.  The other main dish was dum aloo banarasi . The potato is stuffed with paneer inside and is prepared in an orange gravy. It had a burst of flavours, but was a bit tangy than expected.  We had roomali roti, and phulkas along with this, and ended our meal with a jeera rice.  The ambience and food is good enough, and though I did expect a bit better, I...

Soul Sante - vegan, gluten free, soy free, sugar free cafe

Image
This is a newly started cafe that is Vegan, soy free, sugar free, and gluten free. I've recently taken a liking towards vegan food and was looking forward to checking it out when they invited me.  I liked the interiors; they have an earthy feeling with some plants dotted around the place. This certainly gives a very healthy feel to it. The restaurant also has a partially open kitchen. They have really interesting items on the menu and we started with the beetroot sliders . It is a whole grain bun with a nice beetroot patty inside along with tomato, lettuce and purple cabbage. For someone who isn't much of a beetroot fan, I really liked this burger. It is also guilt free.  Then we had the quinoa biryani . This was more like a pulav, and had mostly just broccoli in it among the vegetables. The spices too were on the lower side, and I would have liked it to have some more flavour. Although, it's not bad considering that they make it without any oil. It is served wit...

Wow - Maggi and Pav

Image
The name Wow Maggi and Pav itself is really catchy and when I saw their menu, I was really eager to try out their food. They delivered some at my house for a review.  It was delivered on time and everything was packed really well.  The first item was the pizza vada pav burger . This is a vada pav with the pizza sauce, and some vegetables in it. It looks a bit like a burger. It really had the taste of the pizza in a burger! I totally recommend it for all pizza fans.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Famished Explorer [ UDIT ] (@uditss) on Sep 30, 2019 at 7:19am PDT I'm a fan of momos, and when I saw they have a maggi cheese momo , I had to try this out. It has a generous amount of cheese in it which is the best part, and I got a good flavour of the maggi as well. The covering of the momo itself was also right.  They've got maggi biryani as well which sounded really interesting. These are maggi noodles that are birya...
