Lotsa Pasta

Image
This is a newly started pasta delivery restaurant and offered to send me some of their delicious offerings to try.  For the appetisers, we had the mozzarella sticks which were pretty good. It had a good texture.  The other appetiser was the mac n cheese balls . These were okay; could have been a little more cheesy. For their salad, we tried the  Caesar fusilli salad . You regular Caesar salad with some fusilli pasta in it. It is a nice combination, and tasted quite good with the salad dressing it came with.  I saw they have chicken fajita pasta which was something interesting. This was made with farfalle pasta and was really delicious.  They have combos of appetiser and pasta / salad so you can mix and match. Pretty good food overall although the delivery was delayed a bit more than expected which was a let down.

Circle Cafe

Image
We were looking for a nice cafe for some light snacks and came across this one as we were in the area.  I really liked the ambience of this one. We went during the day time and there was ample of natural light coming in; combined with the earthy colours of the cafe, it gave a nice vibe.  We started with a cappuccino . It had a nice art on it and tasted good too.  I ordered the chia power smoothie . It had chia seeds, almond milk, berries, honey, yogurt, and some vanilla syrup. I totally loved this one. It was healthy, refreshing, and filling too.  For a light bite, we ordered an egg dish. Unfortunately we found a strand of hair in it and pointed it out to them. They apologised profusely and took it away immediately. They asked if we'd like it to be replaced with any other dish and we chose the Egg Royale. As we waited, they got us some crisps to munch on.  The Egg Royale was delicious. Nice runny poached eggs just the way I like it, smoked s...

Pita Pit - Media city

Image
I visited them at their other outlet recently and though of checking this out when a friend invited me here. It was a bit late and they had almost started closing, and it felt really deserted. Also, it was a bit hard to find. I'd suggest this place mostly for ordering in.  I had the spicy chicken  wrap which I had tried at the other outlet and I liked it here as well. Chicken is grilled in sriracha and it also has some fresh vegetables in it. Tastes delicious.  We also tried the souvlaki wrap this time. It has smoked chicken, fresh salad vegetables and feta and swiss cheese. I did expect this to be really good, in fact, better. This wasn't bad, but I think it lacked a little flavour.  They have some nice beverages too and I tried the apple & ginger one. I liked the combination and it had a good flavour to it.  We also had the matcha latte . I do enjoy matcha drinks, but found this one just average. I'm not sure if it was the way it was ma...

Pita Pit

Image
This is a place that serves healthy but really delicious food. It is a very small outlet, and I'd ideally suggest a take away since there is seating for about 6-8 people.  They basically have wraps and salad bowls, and the best part is that you can see them making it in front of you. They also have some juices.  They have some really good options, and I was confused what to get. I ordered the spicy chicken wrap . This has got chicken that's grilled in sriracha sauce, and some fresh veggies like tomato, mushroom, lettuce, and more. I took a bite and I must say it was really delicious. The chicken is spicy, but the spicy flavour isn't overpowering since you have a lot of vegetables in there. This was big and a meal by itself. You have a choice of white or brown bread; and you can choose your sauces too.  You can also customize your dishes, so we chose our ingredients for the salad. We didn't see many options for vegetarian so we chose the halloumi for the p...

Mix n' Match - Delivery review

Image
This is a delivery only restaurant which has multiple outlets. They offered to send me some food for a review. As the name suggests, you can mix n match different dishes from different places. Here are the items that I ordered. All of them are vegetarian . I ordered a Hummus by tawook nation. It looked really nice but was a tad bit dry. The baked falafel wrap by right bite express tasted delicious. I liked the fact that the bread was really thin and I could get nice flavours. Although it had become a bit soggy. The greenhouse pizza by NKD was delicious. Before I even opened the box, I could get the lovely aroma from this one. ` The garlic bread by NKD was nice and cheesy. It had a good flavour to it. We totally loved the Lentil soup by ritebite express. It was a tad bit thicker than usual and had small pieces of carrots in it. I also asked for a salad - the Athena by barsalata 2. This looked really colourful and the portion size was nice too. It was f...

La Farine - part of the "Eat Healthy Live Healthy" initiative by Dubai Mnicipality

Image
La Farine is a French restaurant in J.W. Marriott Marquis with a nice decor. It has a seating area which gets ample of natural sunlight, as well as one that is a bit dark and cosy with really nice seating.  Now coming to the main highlight of this post. The Food Safety Department of Dubai Municipality has come up with a very nice initiative of " Eat Healthy. Live Healthy ", where they certify dishes which meet certain Nutrition standards. They invited me to this restaurant that has 6 of these certified dishes. I will talk about the nutrition standards later in this post. The really good thing and an eye-opener for most people is that healthy food is so much more than salads. Also, for someone like me who wasn't much of a healthy eater, seeing so many options including meat is such a delight.  Grilled Lamb Chops : The lamb is sourced from Australia, and it is marinated in herbs such as parsley. It is topped with smoked Viking Salt and served along with brea...

Jones the Grocer - at Dusit

Image
We ended up here since there was waiting for the outside shisha place - the View - and we wanted to have something light.  I was with vegetarians and sadly, there aren't too many veg options.  We started with a three cheese & Jones pomegranate-fig jam toastie . This was pretty good. It had fig-jam which give it a hint of sweetness, but not something overpowering. It was served with thick-cut fries which I really loved.  A post shared by Famished Explorer [ UDIT ] (@uditss) on Jan 5, 2018 at 1:47am PST For pasta, we had the  garlic and chili linguinie . The taste wasn't bad, but it felt really dry.  I also had a smoked chicken and Persian feta omelette . I did not like this one at all. Firstly, the toast on which it was served had become totally soggy, so much so that I could barely cut it. Secondly, the omlette had less salt in it and lacked taste.  Lastly we had some green tea with honey which we liked.  D...
