Chandini Chowk - JLT

Image
The name itself will tell you that this is a true desi place serving food from Northern India and they invited me to try it out.  We started with my all time favourite - the pani puri . You've the option at having it at your table or at the counter (the traditional way) where they make it for you and give. This one had a generous amount of filling and a burst of flavours; I totally loved it.  The next chaat item was the dahi puri . At times, in many restaurants, this gets a bit soggy, or isn't all that great, but this one I totally loved; it is pretty big too.  Usually I'm not a big fan of dahi puri, but this is worth a try.  Want to have a pizza without the guilt? Here comes the next item that was really interesting. Being a fan of fusion food, this really got my attention. It is the papdi pizza . On a papdi, they have the topping of a pizza (cheese, capsicum, etc.) Whether you're a pizza lover or not, this will blow your mind . One of their specia...

Burger Pit - Food Truck

Image
Looking for some burger places at " The Yard ", we saw this one, and since it had "burger" in its name, we decided to check it out.  They have about a dozen choices (which may not be all that many these days) and it can get a bit confusing to choose from.  We ordered the original burger, with the cheese. The taste was good, but I would have liked this one to have more stuffing inside. It felt a bit smaller than what I expected it to be.  The next one was the spicy chicken drifter which has a buttermilk fried chicken patty along with dynamite sauce. The burger taste juicy overall and we loved this one.  Last, but not the least, we had the fiery melt . This one has piquillo peppers, jalapeno, and a spicy dynamite sauce put together with a beef patty. With so many things in there, it was really flavourful. It does get a bit messy too.  For the sides, they'ye got some loaded fries . We had the one with bacon and cheese . Obviously they were loa...

Sangam Veg Restaurant

Image
This is located in Oud Metha, and though it is on the main road, I had rarely seen it while driving. I saw it on Zomato and we decided to go to there and that when I ended up finding it.  I was looking for Indian vegetarian restaurants on Zomato and this one came up. We anted to have North Indian food and its menu showed both North Indian and South Indian food items, and so we went there.  Before ordering the mains, we ordered a veg pakoda since we were really hungry. These tasted pretty good, though were quite oily.  We had a couple of soups too. The cream of tomato was nice and tangy, but it felt like there was food colouring in it. It looked really bright orange.  The hot n sour soup was spicy. Since I love it this way, I really liked it, but it might be a bit too spicy for most.  We also called for a masala papad to munch on. Initially the waiter gave it on another table since even they had ordered it, but then the waiter who was servin...

Mighty Quinn's BBQ

Image
This is a place that serves some amazing bbqs and there's more to it than just that. The secret to the amazing flavour is that they do not grill it on fire, but barbeque it on smoke !  Various meats are barbequed for different times. More on that later.  They invited me to try out their famous brisket, and more.  This brand is born in NYC, and as soon as you enter, it gives you nice feel coupled with the rustic ambience. The interiors are a bit dimly lit, but complement the fell well.  Among their starters, they suggested the chicken wings . These were juicy and soft too. At first bite, I didn't get all that much of a flavour, but when I had it with the sauce that's when I got the amazing flavours. The sauce is where the magic is. The sauce might be a bit spicy for some, but it's well worth it.  The next one was the baked mac and cheese . This one was delicious and really cheesy; although if you're expecting a cheese pull, it does not have that....

Mitra - Al Seef

This is a lovely restaurant located by the creek-side and I really liked the ambience of this place. They've got seating inside as well as outside by the creek which is really beautiful; it feels calm and peaceful. For Iftar, they've made a set menu consisting of some of their best dishes.  They've got a non-vegetarian menu as well as a vegetarian one. The set menu is for AED 114 (AED 68 for kids) inclusive of all taxes. One of the first things that I noticed as I sat to dine is the shape of the glass. It has an angular base. It is catchy; though kinda scary as well as intriguing at the same time.  The first section is called the soulful start (it is the same for veg as well as non-veg ) To break the fast, they got us some dates; along with that you have a choice of mango-milkshake or chhaas . The mango milkshake is delicious, sweet, and cold, and also has some dry-fruits in it. The chhaas is savoury and really refreshing.  These are followed by sm...
