Chandini Chowk - JLT

The name itself will tell you that this is a true desi place serving food from Northern India and they invited me to try it out.

We started with my all time favourite - the pani puri. You've the option at having it at your table or at the counter (the traditional way) where they make it for you and give. This one had a generous amount of filling and a burst of flavours; I totally loved it.

The next chaat item was the dahi puri. At times, in many restaurants, this gets a bit soggy, or isn't all that great, but this one I totally loved; it is pretty big too.  Usually I'm not a big fan of dahi puri, but this is worth a try.

Want to have a pizza without the guilt? Here comes the next item that was really interesting. Being a fan of fusion food, this really got my attention. It is the papdi pizza. On a papdi, they have the topping of a pizza (cheese, capsicum, etc.) Whether you're a pizza lover or not, this will blow your mind .

One of their specialities are the kebabs, and we had a platter of these for starters. They're served sizzling hot with a hint of smokey flavour to it. This one had chicken, seekh kebab, fish, and prawns. For me, more than the conventional chicken and seekh, I think I liked the fish and prawn much more. The fish was well made and really soft. The prawns were juicy and a bit crunchy too and I was really enjoying them. The seekh kebab and the chicken was pretty good too.

For mains, they suggested us two gravies with different meats. One was the chicken jalfrazie. I've had the vegetable jalfrazie at a lot of places but the chicken variant was a first for me. It is a spicy and tangy gravy with some vegetable in it, and we really liked it.

The other one was the mutton bhoona. It is minced meat in the shape of balls in a brownish gravy. The taste of this one was nice, but the balls were a tad bit hard.

We had this with an assortment of rotis (Indian breads). There was kulcha, roti, naan, and the lachha paratha. I think all of these were really very good. They were not hard or rubbery but were made just right.

For drinks, we had the goli soda (a.k.a. banta / namlet). This was in sikanjee flavour and felt very refreshing.

I also had the fruit punch which contains, orange, pineapple, strawberry crush along with fresh cream. This too was really fresh and thick. Hence, it does get a tad bit filling.

After having all of this, we barely had any place left for the sweets, but the gulab jamun was tempting us. After taking a bite, we did not regret. It was warm and soft, with the right amount of sweetness to it.
