Mitra - Al Seef

This is a lovely restaurant located by the creek-side and I really liked the ambience of this place. They've got seating inside as well as outside by the creek which is really beautiful; it feels calm and peaceful.

For Iftar, they've made a set menu consisting of some of their best dishes.
They've got a non-vegetarian menu as well as a vegetarian one. The set menu is for AED 114 (AED 68 for kids) inclusive of all taxes.

One of the first things that I noticed as I sat to dine is the shape of the glass. It has an angular base. It is catchy; though kinda scary as well as intriguing at the same time.

The first section is called the soulful start (it is the same for veg as well as non-veg)
To break the fast, they got us some dates; along with that you have a choice of mango-milkshake or chhaas. The mango milkshake is delicious, sweet, and cold, and also has some dry-fruits in it. The chhaas is savoury and really refreshing.

These are followed by small portions of hariyali samosey, onion kachori, and palak pattey ki chaat. The onion kachori was really nice while the other two were okay.

The next section is called "straight from the kitchen"; these are the starters which have one piece of the following items:

Options in the non-vegetarian menu:

Amritsari macchi: This was fish in sort of a kebab shape. It was a bit crispy form outside and tasted nice.
- Gunpowder 69: This is chicken wrapped in turkey bacon. This was really delicious and my favourite. It had the smokey tandoor flavour to it.
- Istree mutton arayes: This is like the Arabic version of stuffed mutton paratha, and is served with dal. It has a desi taste to it.

Options in the vegetarian menu:

Tandoori Afghani broccoli: No points for guessing what this is. The broccoli made in a tandoor tasted great.
- Paneer Paparazzi: This is a piece of fried paneer tikka.
Rajma seekh: This was an interesting way to serve one of our beloved dish, the rajma chawal. The rajma is rolled into the shape of a seekh and served with little bit of rice. This was my favourite among these.

After this they give you a palate cleanser which is a refreshing drink (same for veg and non-veg) -  a Banarasi pan shot with frozen berry

Then come the mains:
Options in the non-veg menu:
There was one serving of chicken biryani which was well made, and one bowl of the following:

- Charger chooza: This is like butter chicken. It is a creamy tomato flavoured gravy with a piece of chicken that was coated with rice. Totally loved this one.

- Ingad Pingad Fish: This is South Indian style fish. If you are a fan of the South Indian coconut flavoured curries, then you'll love this one. The fish too was flavourful.

- Dal bombshell makhni: This is basically dal makhni with a twist to it. The lentils and beans and made into a shape of a ball which is put in a brown buttery gravy, and is mashed after being served to you on the table. This one was pretty good too.

Options in the vegetarian menu:

There was Kashmiri pulav which was a bit sweetish to taste. The taste wasn't bad, but I'm not a big fan of the Kashmiri pulav.  It was served with a bowl of the following:

- Pindi Chole: These are black chole that are dry. The taste was totally on point and I really liked it.
- Kuppa kofta makhni: This is like paneer butter masala. It is a creamy tomato flavoured gravy with koftas in it. It tasted pretty good overall.
- Dal bombshell makhni: This is basically dal makhni with a twist to it. The lentils and beans and made into a shape of a ball which is put in a brown buttery gravy, and is mashed after being served to you on the table. This one was pretty good too.

Along with that you can select a type of roti that you like.

For dessert (same for veg and non-veg), there is kismi bite cheese cake. This is a small chocolate and caramel flavoured cheesecake which is a perfect to end your meal.

For those who do not have much of a sweet tooth, you can replace this with a tea or coffee.

The portion size of each of the food items might seem a bit small, but given the variety of items, it is enough for one person. Once you're done, they get you the fancy wet wipes which are kept in a miniature bath-tub.

They have a section upstairs where they also serve shisha and alcohol. The section upstairs has inside as well as outside seating.

This restaurant has valet parking available. They have just one valet driver and obviously it was a bit difficult for him to attend to all the cars who come around the same time for Iftar. I would suggest going a few minutes early in case this takes a bit longer than expected.

I liked the overall fell that the place has to it, and the food also met our expectations.
