Carnival by Tresind
This is a place which focuses a lot on presentation, and along with that also has a very nice ambience that is colourful, yet classy; and that's just during the daytime. At night, it gets even better.
They have 6 small plates (starters) and 4 big plates (mains) along with 2 desserts. This consists of some vegetarian and some non-vegetarian items and you can have unlimited quantities of all of them.
The one I liked the most was the Pulliinji. These are prawns made south-Indian style with ginger and served with a curry leaf crisp. I totally loved the flavour that it had to it, and just couldn't keep my hands off.
Then we had the game of corns which is a corn & fenugreek cutlets served on a bed of popcorn with goji berry chutney and kewpie mayo on top. These were really delicious too.
They've tried to make an interesting combo by putting peanut butter over paneer tikka along with some red current jelly and cucumber. This dish is called the Peanut Butter and Jelly, and I did not quite like the idea of having peanut butter on cottage cheese.
We all love tacos, but don't taco about it! That's what it is called. Tacos filled with avocado and water chestnut along with yuzu masala. This really gave a burst of flavours in my mouth.
Next one was the meat-a-licious. It is lamb grilled in mysore masala and served with a small piece of dosa and the potato 'masala' that comes along with it. I really liked the spices in this one, and the potato also complemented it well.
Who doesn't like a burger? There's a slider too. The chicken kebab slider with jalapenos and caramelized onion. The taste of this one was totally on point.
That was the starters, now let's move on to the mains.
One of the dishes that really intrigued me was the Carta fata. It is named after what it is cooked in. Carta fata is a type of transparent cooking foil that can stand temperatures upto 200 degrees C. Inside this is fish that is made malabar style, and it is served along with lemon rice. Being someone who loves rice, I totally indulged in this one.
Another one was also one of my favourite - potato. The dum aloo. It is stir fried potato in a yoghurt and mustard curry. It was a tad bit spicy and the curry mellowed it down, and the end result was lip-smacking.
Next was one of the signature dishes of punjab, served in a thali. Sarson ka saag with makkai di roti; it is called Mini Punjab since they serve it with white butter, a capsicum salad, chilli pickle, and a jaggery sauce. The accompaniments do accentuate the flavour of the sarson ka saag and we really liked it. It was served along with lachha paratha.
Last but not the least was the "Moti Mahal Butter chicken". Butter chicken made with the original recipe that they use in Moti Mahal in India. This wasn't too bad. It was served with butter naan.
After this they also gave us some karak chai just the way you would have it on the streets of India - on a bicycle. It was a nice concept but the tea certainly wasn't.
Now coming to the sweet endings...
The one I liked best was Milk and Cookies. This one consists of a mawa cake topped with burnt banana, vanilla ice-cream and little heart cookies. This was pure indulgence.
The other one was the tiramisu which had a really nice coffee flavour to it and surpassed our expectations.
All the above items are part of the Lunch Menu and you can have unlimited of each of the items.
-----
We also tried quite a few items which are part of the à la carte and can be ordered separately.
An interesting soup was the Chicken soup for the soul. It was made from tomato and butter consomme and felt like I was drinking butter chicken. I totally loved it. This one was served with a bite-sized chicken kulcha.
Another starter was the Canape Amuse Bouche which is a starter platter consisting bite-sized portions of the following.
- Coriander Pesto Brioche which was well baked and had a good flavour.
- Bhel Puri Bar which was a bit sticky and not exactly how I'd want my bhel puri to be like.
- Traditional dhokla served with a hint of spicy chutney and was spot on.
- Poppadum which was chilli flavoured and really crispy.
- Lassi bon bon which was like a mini lassi bomb.
They also have a few live dishes and we had the "Into the wild" which consists of prawns and wagyu tenderlion that are cooked on a himalayan salt slab that is heated to 200 degrees. It is then wrapped in lettuce but not before adding just the right spices to it. The concept is nice and goes aptly with the name, but the taste was just about okay.
For mocktails we had the Yellow Tail which is a mix of mango and passion fruit. This one was fruity and tangy and also had a bit of a smokey presentation.
There was one of our childhood favourites too - the Goli Soda. It was kala khatta flavoured and served in a bottle which has a goli (mini ball) that you need to press so that it pops (hear it in the video below). It has a hint of chaat masala and was really zesty. This one was served in a basket and had smoke coming out which made for an amazing presentation.
Another one was the virgin pinacolada. This one too was smokey, with the smoke flowing over the table. The pinacolada though felt a bit watered down, and just okay.
For the other desserts from the menu, we had the pear tarte tartin. This is a caramelized pear served over balushahi. They also give you some citrus fruits and basil seeds with it as well as an orange tea to cut down the sweet flavours. I felt like there was a lot going on in this dish and I couldn't get a good taste of either of them.
Saving the best for the last and this was the DIY dessert. It consists primarily or rabdi and tiramisu. It comes with a mini kitchenette so that you can make it on your own. There are different layers to it as well as some mascarpone cheese, caramel sauce, and chocolate powder. I was initially a bit apprehensive, but after the first bite, I was left asking for more.
They have different seasons (themes) every three months. Their recent one is the La La Land during which they've also introduced business lunches priced at just AED 125 per head, which they invited me to try out.
In this season they're focusing on the Indian food, and retaining its core flavour so that it remains very similar to the original taste, but focusing on presenting it in a way that is even more pleasing to the eye. They have 6 small plates (starters) and 4 big plates (mains) along with 2 desserts. This consists of some vegetarian and some non-vegetarian items and you can have unlimited quantities of all of them.
