Sushi Sushi - Century Village

Image
There are a lot of sushi places around town but this one has been around for over 17 years! Yes, really long time. I was invited to try out the sushi from one of the oldest sushi places in town. The ambience of Sushi Sushi has a red theme to it giving a very Asian feel; though the interiors do look old now (duh) and are a tad bit dimly lit. It is located in Century Village which itself is a charm of its own. There are half a dozen restaurants here and you can see trees planted in between them which gives a very pleasant feel. Most of the restaurants have an outdoor smoking zone where they serve shisha, including this one. The place also serves alcohol if you like a drink or two ...or five. They also have the conveyor belt sushi if that's what you prefer. You can also see the chefs making some of the dishes in front of you. They got us a sushi platter so we could taste some of their star dishes. I first tried the crunchy prawn and I really liked the crunch that it...

Fish Hut - Al Barsha

Image
After the huge success of their Bur Dubai outlet, they opened one in Barsha too, and they invited me to try out their food.  The place has a lot of tables in there, and in a way that's a good thing, but in case there are a lot of people, this place might feel cramped as the tables are in close proximity to each other.  They have quite a wide variety in their menu especially for the grills which is their speciality. They have char-grilled as well as pan-grilled. A post shared by Famished Explorer [ UDIT ] (@uditss) on Apr 20, 2018 at 5:45am PDT The manager offered to set the table for us, i.e. get their best dishes so that we could get a taste of everything. They first got the complimentary salad. We started with the shrimp which is my favourite seafood. It was pan-grilled . They got us two varieties - the lemon butter one, and  the spicy one. Both of them were really nice, though I liked the lemon butter one more, since it was something which I don't...

Seafood night at Mercure Barsha

Image
This is a restaurant located in the Mercure Dubai hotel in Barsha and has a sea-food night every Friday. The buffet is around AED 175 (which also includes a shisha), and I was invited here to try it out. This place had a large selection of sea-food items; whether it was the different types of grill fish, sushis, prawns, lobster, and even more, it seemed unending. The chef himself goes to pick out the fresh sea-food at the fish market, and so obviously you get the best that there is to offer.  The fish is grilled in front of you and they recommend you the sauces that it tastes best with.  They've got a huge selection of sushis . I tried a few and really liked them.  I saw oysters too, and this was the first time I had them, and it was quite good. They have some sauces / toppings which you can put, and then the flavour of the oyster would be mellowed down a bit.  On one side, there were freshly fried tempura prawns . They have this and wood-oven ...

Kona Grill

Image
Kona grill is a restaurant that has newly opened at Al Seef. This is the first outlet outside the Americas and they invited me to try it out. The staff is really courteous and attentive and were happy to have us over.  I was really impressed with the interiors from the moment I stepped in. They are sitting downstairs as well as upstairs; the alcoholic drinks though are served only upstairs. They have seating is indoors as well as outdoors, and the outdoors would be a very good option if the weather permits especially since you get a lovely view of the Dubai creek.  We started with their mocktails, one of which was the Blueberry sage soda . It contains Blueberry, sage, and Ginger beer. The other one was a raspberry based mocktail which was newly introduced. This was ice blended, and both of them tasted really refreshing.  Apart from American they also have some Sushi. I was told that their Chef used to work at Nobu in Atlantis for a few years. They've got qu...

Benjarong - Dusit Thani

Image
Benjarong is an award winning thai restaurant located on the 24th level in Dusit Thani. Not only does it serve amazing Thai food, but this one also has a fantastic view. The interiors are classy, and there is also live instrumental music being played. I was invited by this restaurant, and was excited to be there.  We were spoilt for choice. We went in the first week of September and they had a special menu that had some additional items apart from the usual too.  We started off with some drinks and a salad - an interesting one - the green papaya salad with blue crab . This was something out of the box. The waiter asked if we were okay with spicy; we were. Now this was something unusual for a salad. When served, we saw that it had chopped chili in it and it really brought about the flavor well. It also had tiny shrimp in it.  A post shared by UDIT . S .
