Kona Grill
Kona grill is a restaurant that has newly opened at Al Seef. This is the first outlet outside the Americas and they invited me to try it out. The staff is really courteous and attentive and were happy to have us over.
I was really impressed with the interiors from the moment I stepped in. They are sitting downstairs as well as upstairs; the alcoholic drinks though are served only upstairs. They have seating is indoors as well as outdoors, and the outdoors would be a very good option if the weather permits especially since you get a lovely view of the Dubai creek.
We started with their mocktails, one of which was the Blueberry sage soda. It contains Blueberry, sage, and Ginger beer. The other one was a raspberry based mocktail which was newly introduced. This was ice blended, and both of them tasted really refreshing.
Apart from American they also have some Sushi. I was told that their Chef used to work at Nobu in Atlantis for a few years. They've got quite a few sushis as well as rolls and they got me a selection of a few of the best ones. This included Salmon, tuna, eel and Prawns. All of these were fresh and tasted really delicious. There was one which had sort of a dynamite prawn on top which I especially liked.
Then we moved on to the mains. We had a grilled gulf shrimp which is served along with a shrimp and vegetable fried rice and some seasonal vegetables. We could get the lovely smoky aroma of the shrimp and I really like this dish a lot.
Next we had the macadamia nut chicken. The name as well as the description sounded really interesting but sadly I did not enjoy this dish as much. It was a bit dry for my taste and the shoyu cream as well as the papaya pineapple marmalade that was served with it didn't quite complement the flavours.
They've got a good selection of dessert too, and the staff recommended the carrot cake which is one of their specialities. This one was really good and the portion size was enough for almost 3 - 4 people. It wasn't overly sweet and the flavours felt just right.
I like the overall feel that this restaurant has to it; the views are great, and the staff makes you feel welcomed as well.
