Asha's - Maryah Island

Asha's is a well known chain of restaurants and they recently launched a new menu called Himachal to Ladakh that is there until the 26th of December 2019 across all their outlets.

We started with some refreshing mocktails. I liked the one which had chili and coconut in it. It was actually spicy, and if you want to try something different, this is a good choice.

Then came  the Thukpa soup which is originally a Nepali/Tibetan soup but they prepare it with their own touch to it. They add some red chilli, garam masala, and lemon to it. It has some noodles in it too, and all of this really brought about a very nice flavour to the soup. It had an Indian touch to it while still preserving the core Nepali taste.

Next were the Ladakhi dumplings. This were chicken dumplings that had a thick curry to it which was made from onion and tomato masala. I eat my dumplings with lot of sauce but the curry itself acted as a sauce which was really delicious.

We also had the chili garlic momos which had an indo-chinese flavour to it. This were stuffed with minced chicken. I did not quite like the texture of the chicken; but the outer coating was really good.

For the seafood they had tandoori sea bream in a marination of ginger garlic and yellow chilli. The melange of spices was really nice and it had a good flavour to it.

My favourite dish here had to be the rara mutton. It was minced lamb on bone in an onion and tomato preparation with Kashmiri red chilli in it. The lamp was prepared well and I just couldn't stop after one bite.

The next dish for the mains was the dhaniwal korma. This is chicken prepared in a creamy yoghurt gravy that was yellowish with Indian spices. It was something a little different from the usual chicken preparations. The curry was not overpowering but complemented the chicken well.

We ended with the hariyali chicken biryani. The aroma of the biryani at Asha's is out the world; perhaps the aroma raised my expectations from the biryani. The chicken tasted lovely, but the rice itself could have had a little more masala to it.

The place is also really nice and definitely feels upmarket.
having visited other outlets of theirs I can really vouch for the food here.
