The Charcoal Shack

For those who like grills, hearing the word charcoal will surely have your attention, and that's what happened when I was invited to try our the food here.

The restaurant has a nice interior to it. I really liked the rustic and woody feel that it has to it. It is spacious enough too, with ample natural light seeping in.

For something that has 'charcoal' in its name, I was expecting more variety of kebabs and grills for some reason.

We started with the dynamite chicken, since the menu sadly did not have dynamite prawn. The 'dynamite' sauce was light orange-ish pink. It did taste good but not spicy which is what was expected from it.

Among the burgers, the Mexican spicy chicken burger caught our attention. It had the Mexican sauce, and tasted quite good. It could have been a bit more saucy though.

The bbq mix grill platter was good enough. The chicken kebabs were good.  The grilled chicken was okay, and so was the shish tawook. They tasted a bit dry.

They also have pasta, and we tried the Fettuccine alfredo. It had broccoli and bell-peppers in it, and the consistency was good. Not too dry, not too creamy.

We then tried their shawerma. We had the plate as well as the spicy one. I really liked the taste of both. They were flavourful, and especially with the sauce on the side which was a mix of garlic sauce with a spicy one, tasted great.

Fish and chips is a classic dish, and we called for a double portion. The fish was smelly and this tasted bad.  Something was really off about it.

The drinks were quite nice though. I had a blueberry mojito, and it was refreshing. The passion fruit was nice too; it wasn't as sour as it usually is.

I also liked the mix berry smoothie. It wasn't overly sweet but had a subtle flavour of the berries.

We ended our meal with a double chocolate cake which was moist. It had a homemade feel to it, and was mildly sweet.

The place is pretty good overall, except for a couple of items which could have definitely been better.
