Signature by Sanjeev Kapoor - Vegan Review
We were looking for a good Indian restaurant to go to that has Vegan options. My folks had recently started exploring Veganism (though have always been vegetarian) and wanted to go to a restaurant that caters to this dietary restriction. The restaurant has some vegan options and some other vegetarian dishes that can be made vegan on request.
Most of the below dishes are vegan or can be made vegan on request. We called the chef and he suggested us some dishes based on our preferences.
They got us some papads to munch on with an assortment of delicious chutneys / dips.
After this, there was a palate cleanser called the vegetarian Egg Yolk. It only looked like a yolk but was actually a mango liquid inside a gelatinous ball that bursts in your mouth.
For our soup, we had the tomato and basmati shorba. It had some pandan leaves in it that gave a nice flavour, and there was murmura (rice puffs) on which they poured the tomato broth. It was tangy, hot, and a bit spicy too. It was a comforting combination.
We then had an interesting appetiser called the mitochondria potato. I think it looks a bit similar to mitochondria and hence the name. This is a mini jacket potato stuffed with punjabi aloo matar. Being a fan of potatoes, we really liked it.
Before getting to the mains, there was another palate cleanser. This time a white coloured ball with a different flavour.
For the mains, we had saag-e-basmati. Spinach puree and basmati rice is cooked together to make this dish. The usual spinach dishes are a bit boring and this was something different and nice. It was served with bajra ki roti (pearl millet bread) that is topped with gud (jaggery) and ghee (clarified butter). We asked for it without ghee since we wanted it vegan.
The other dish was the flaming granite bharwa subz. It has an assortment of vegetables that are topped with a tomato onion curry while serving. The vegetables include okra, cauliflower, baby eggplant, bitter gourd and potato. The serving style was good, and something different than the usual and the dish itself also tasted good since there was a mix of various vegetables. Although, it wasn't something rave-worthy.
The ambience is dimly lit and initially it does feel nice and cozy, but after a bit we felt that we would have liked it to be a bit brighter.
They also have a mini dining room for a personalised private dining experience.
