Jharokha

I found the name of this place really catchy. It feels really desi. They're located in JLT, and invited me to try out their food.

This place serves Indian cuisine as well as desi Chinese. The menu is huge and there are a lot of things to choose from.

We started with some drinks which were really refreshing - the fresh lime water and the jal jeera. Served at the right temperature and had the right amount of tanginess to it.

We ordered one of their Chinese starters - the salt & pepper prawn. This dish also had some garlic in it which we really liked. The prawns tasted great, and the salt & pepper sauce was so good that I could lick it off my plate. If you like spicy food as well as garlic, you're sure to love this.

In order to try more of their starters, we called for a non-vegetarian platter. It was modified a little bit and they put the chicken tandoori and the aatish-e-chicken in there.

The aatish-e-chicken was pretty good; the marination had a great flavour to it.
The tandoori chicken tasted good, but it wasn't all that soft.
The fish tikka was our favourite. It had a green marination and was really soft. It tasted great with the mint chutney.
The seekh kebabs were juicy and soft enough, as well as filling.

For the mains, we had the chicken achari. This has a flavour of an Indian pickle, and is a bit sour. The gravy of this one was not bad, but the chicken felt a bit hard, and not much to our liking.

We had this with the garlic naan which was made really well with ample amount of garlic in it.

There was also the roomali roti of which usually I'm a big fan, but this one did not seem right. It wasn't as soft as expected. A tad bit crispy which would have been fine for any other Indian breads, but not the roomali roti which is meant to be soft. It also felt a bit chewy.

They have a wide selection of Chinese food items like I said before, and we also had the mixed fried rice (chicken + prawn) along with the veg manchurian. The rice was average, but we liked the manchurian. I wouldn't say it was exceptional, but pretty good.

We ended on a sweet note with the gulab jamun that was served hot. This one tasted really nice. It was also bigger than the ones you get at most places.

This place also keeps kulfis from Kulfilicious in case you'd like to try some.

Jayanand, one of their staff members made a good effort to see that we had a good experience, and was friendly and chatty.
