Seedology - Chia inspired dishes
This is a newly started restaurant that specialises in healthy food, especially things to do with Chia seeds, and hence the name.
The invited me for the bloggers pre-launch.
It is a small place with a different interior; kinda weird. It had a table in a flowery area, and a spiderman on the opposite side. Another wall had grafitti. The theme was a bit confusing to me.
The names of the dishes here are interesting and innovative. Some of the names have an element of Dubai also in it. Let me start with the dishes that I liked
Shukulata Jafiliya : This is like a Chia pudding that contains triple chocolate, that's all. It isn't mixed with too many things in it. Chocolate surely makes things better, and here you're eating a healthy variant, so less guilt too! I must say I really liked this one.
Toast topped with avocado. They're yet to name this one. The chef just tried his hand at making something nice. One of them had a beetroot spread, and the other had one with mustard and egg. For someone who isn't all that big a fan of avocado or beetroot, I exceptionally liked it. It is healthy at the same time, tastes good. That's exactly what healthy eateries should aim for. A fantastic job from the chef here.
Charizard Lassi: There was something about this lassi (sort of a yoghurt smoothie) that we couldn't stop after one sip. It had blueberry, yoghurt, Almond Milk. The proportion of the ingredients was right and so was the consistency. It felt refreshing too.
Kale & Spinach Hummus. I'm not much of a fan of experimenting with healthy foods, especially when the regular dishes are tampered with, but I really liked this one. It took a couple of bites to get used to the flavour, but you really tend to like it. The spinach and kale flavours are subtle. It was served with vegetable chips, and some carrot and cucumber along with it.
Poison: This is something to sip on. It contains lemon, mint, pineapple, ginger and a hint of tabasco. This one was served in a bulb-shaped glass that looked really nice. I like the spicy flavour of the ginger and tabasco. Also, this one was a little thicker than I expected it to be.
Seven Emirates Salad : This one had rocket leaves, baby spinach, walnut, Chia and cucumber along with a topping of balsamic vinegar. As you must have noticed from the description, this did not feel exceptional. Just tasted like any other regular salad. Not that it was bad, but not something to rave about either.
Donkey Kong: Another Chia pudding but with banana and Lotus biscuit. The banana was over-powering and I did not like this. The taste of lotus was there, but it didn't feel so prominent. It was a let down.
chips
Gohan Pizza: I was excited to see a healthy pizza. This one is made in the shape of a cone, with a very thin bread. It has tomato, green & red Pepper, pineapple, mozzarella cheese, mustard and some mayo. The bread felt a bit hard to bite off. Also, the flavour wasn't something to our liking. I guess there can't be anything like a good healthy pizza after all. The wedges that were served on the side were pretty good.
The good thing to note down here though is the enthusiastic chef - chef Jay. He came out and explained a few dishes himself, and I could see from his expressions how passionate he is about his food, and how glad he was to serve us.
The rest of the staff in seemed a bit confused in general. When we told them something, most of the times they had an ambiguous response or didn't understand us properly.
This one is located in a place where there isn't much but a handful of restaurants, and the area does not seem very lively.
I'm not sure if I would look forward to visiting it next time.
