Itsu Sushi

There are a lot of sushi places coming up and each one seems to be a bit different than the other. This place had interesting combinations, that also had some catchy names, and they invited me to try these out.

I like the colour scheme that they've used in the restaurant. It is green, black, and brown. The green really stands out as compared to most other places.

As soon as you enter, you'll notice the sushi train (conveyor belt sushi), and for sushi & sashimi lovers, there's a good news. You can sit there and have unlimited quanitites of this for just AED 111 (+ vat)!

We chose one of the tables on the side instead; a more comfortable one.

On the first page of their menu, they have the regular sushis that you see everywhere, but turn the page, and you'll see their "funky international makis". There's a wide variety and of-course we wanted to have them all. We asked the staff for their recommendations, and after pondering for a bit, we finally settled for three of them.

Tiger Maki: This is a colourful one, and what makes it so is the colourful tobiko on top. The maki contains salmon and avocado topped with marinated prawn mayonnaise. As you can see from the description, it really makes it sound tempting. It looked amazing on our plate too. This one was flavourful, and I really liked the tobiko on top. The rice used for the maki seemed to be a bit more stickier than the ones we've had elsewhere.

Dragon maki: Prawn tempura and cucumber topped with avocado mayonnaise. I love prawn, and so I found it pretty good. The avocado mayonnaise adds a very subtle flavour to it. It wasn't as spicy as the other two that we had. And oh, the name "Dragon" because it is topped with orange tobiko. I think the other two makis were so good, that this one got a bit overshadowed.

Dynamite maki: The moment we read the description, we knew we had to try this. It had sliced chilli in it. We like spicy, but something like this in a maki was totally new to us. Apart from that it had grilled chicken, avocado, sesame seeds, and teriyaki sauce. This maki was also a bit bigger in size. We had one, and it was a mouthful. There was a burst of flavours; too many flavours initially, but later on that chilli kicked in, and then, we got a foodgasm. If you like to try something spicy, you're sure to love this, but if you aren't much into it, it's better you stick to the less spicy options.

We're a fan of the ramen, and the "gyoza ramen" caught our attention. This is a chicken gyoza, and the ramen has some snow pean, button mushrooms, and more. The gyoza was juice and flavourful, and the ramen tasted amazing. Whether it was the noodles in it or the various greens, they seem to have got the taste right. I definitely recomend trying this one out.

For the mains, we had the chicken teriyaki. It is served along with a bowl of sticky rice. The teriyaki sauce is where all the fun is. Initially we just had the chicken (which had just a slight amount of teriyaki on it), and it tasted alright, but when we added a generous amount of teriyaki with the chicken and the rice, it totally changed the way it tasted. It really brought out the flavour of the chicken well.

They have a couple of items for their dessert and we wanted to try out the ones with match, but sadly they weren't available on this particular day.

Go here for the delicious makis, and the calm & peaceful ambience.
