Makarem - Arabic and Yemeni cuisine

This restaurant might look small from outside, but it has seating upstairs and they've made it nicely. There are the regular table and chairs as well as majlis style seating. There weren't many people here that day but in case there are people sitting in the majlis as well as in the tables that are in the middle, it might feel a bit cramped.
I was invited to try out their food.

We asked for one of the appetisers, but they had very limited ones that day.
So we got a portion of the katlees potato which is potato stuffed with meat. I liked the way it was prepared; it was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. It did taste good, but I would have liked it to have some more flavour. Although they did give us some sauces along which added to the flavour.

The other appetiser was the potato chips. These were hot and fresh and had some spices on it which tasted really good.

They had just introduced a new appetiser which is the cheese sambousek and they gave us to try it. These were just delicious. They were crisp and really hot when served. The cheese was melting inside and that was just superb.

For our drinks we had the ayran and a vimto.

For our mains, we ordered half mandi, and half madhbi. They served it together in a big plate which just like people have it traditionally. They also have two types of rice. One it the regular one which is served with mandi, and the other is the Makarem rice which is with some herbs and spices in it. We really liked both the types of rice. The mandi as well as the madhbi tasted delicious. They were well cooked and the flavour had seeped in well.

They gave us four sauces/dips along with it. One was the spicy tomato one which was my favourite, the other one was cheese with tomato - though it didn't have that much of a flavour of cheese, the third one was the minty yoghurt one, and the fourth was the cucumber in yoghurt. These definitely added on to the flavour and we really enjoyed having it.

For the sweet endings, they got us kunafa. They sadly ran out of the cheese one, but they did give us the cream kunafa one which was pretty good. It was really crispy and hot.
The other one was the nutella kunafa. This too was crispy, and the good thing is that it did not taste overly sweet like I though it might. You can easily share it among 2-3 people since it is quite big.

They gave us some tea along with it too.

Ryan was the staff member serving us that day and he was friendly and really attentive; he made sure we had a good experience despite a few of the dishes not being available that day.

If good taste is what you're looking for then this restaurant certainly won't let you down.
