A Cappella - International fusion food

A cappella refers to music without instrumental accompaniment. Just the way the sounds come together, so do the flavours of the food here. They have fusion dishes from all around the world which I was invited to try out. This is a concept by the people behind the Tresind brand of restaurants and the chef too is the one who was there earlier - chef Paritosh - and he got us some interesting dishes.

It is located among the upper level of restaurants at The Pointe mall with views of the Atlantis if you're sitting outside.
Step inside and you'll see a bar and a kitchen in the centre surrounded by the seating area. It has a casual though upmarket ambience and is dimly lit.

We started with the Barrel man which was a whiskey based cocktail with a bit of a fruity flavour to it.

The other cocktail was the Old Fashioned which is whiskey and bitters. This was served in a small barrel with a tap to it and had a smokey flavour which I really liked.

For the appetisers, we started with pani puri champenoise - the famous Indian street food served in a fancy way with smoke. The puris were soggy though and I didn't enjoy having this.

Next were the veg sliders. These were made from an interesting combination of cheese and jalapeno patty along with some tamarind sauce. If they hadn't told, perhaps I would have thought it is a meat slider. It was really delicious.

I've had the lamb chops at Tresind and the Tandoori lamb chops here too were quite similar. Perhaps the most delicious ones that I've had in Dubai. Soft and really flavourful, these were served along with sesame sauce.

They then got us a a huge container, atop which was chicken. This was the tandoori chicken that was served over charcoal and some chutneys on the side. The chicken was soft and tasted pretty good. I think the lamb chops had raised my expectations a bit too much so I think I was expecting a bit more.

After that we had a portion of peri peri chicken wings. The difference here was that it wasn't a peri peri sauce but dry peri peri spice and that gave a totally different texture to it and tasted nice too. It was served with avocado sauce and lemon aioli on the side in mini bottles.

It was time for some more cocktails now. This time it was the whiskey sour which is another classic and this one felt quite smooth to have.

We also had something that really caught my attention (especially being a photographer) since this was served in a camera. It was called "to the pointe" looked really cool. This one was vodka based and had passionfruit, raspberry, rosemary, and sparkling water in it.

For the mains, we had the crab curry. This had a south Indian flavour to it and was served with some roti and rice. It tasted delicious with the roti and I was thoroughly enjoying it.

If you're a fan of the mac and cheese, you'll definitely enjoy the Lobster Mac n' Cheese. It's exactly what the name suggests. The lobster shell on the side added a nice touch. This dish was as cheesy as it should be and was really filling too.

For dessert, we had the chocolate sphere which is quite the rage lately. It had some dark chocolate and brownies inside and is great for chocolate lovers.

The one which I enjoyed more was the Tiramisu. This is made with liquor in it and I definitely couldn't stop at one bite.

I really liked the place overall. If you're looking for a place that's in a good location, serves alcohol and shisha and isn't all that heavy on the pocket, then this is a lovely choice.
