Baker Street - JLT
All you Sherlock fans must be so excited, and rightly so, but don't get your expectations all too high since this place doesn't revolve much around your favourite fictional detective. This place does have a lot of things that are distinctively London which gives it the feel of baker street though.
I was invited by a friend to try out the place.
They have some interesting things to drink, and I started with the chilled double chocolate fudge shake - iced. This was delicious. It was served at the right temperature and more importantly it had the right thickness (consistency) to it. It wasn't too thick to make you full, but not too thin and watery either.
We also had one of their muesli shakes. This was milky, not too thick, but was filling and is a great choice for breakfast.
To munch on, we had the classic British item - a toasted sandwich. It was the toasted cheese sandwich which contains English cheddar, tomatoes, branston pickle, and English mustard. A lot of times, a cheese toast feels a bit too dry but the ingredients in this one complemented each other very well, and it tasted flavourful. The tomatoes, the branston pickle and the mustard gave it a bit of wetness, and it felt satisfactory at each bite.
They suggested that their jacket potatoes are one of the favourites here and me being a big fan of potato, just had to try it out. We called for the salmon, cream cheese, and fresh dill jacket potato. I've had jacket potato at a lot of places, but nowhere in Dubai have I seen one that has such a generous amount of filling in it. The flavour of the salmon wasn't very distinctive, but the jacket potato tasted great with the cream cheese. If you like potato and cheese and are able to stop after one bite of this, you can change my name.
For dessert, we had the chocolate fondant. There is nothing that you can hate about this one really. It was served along with ice-cream and tasted superb. The cake was moist, though the chocolate flowed out just a little bit.
We ended our meal with the toffee coffee. As you must have guessed, it is the toffee flavoured coffee; it does get a bit too sweet as expected, but if this is your kind of flavour, then you will definitely like it.
Our host Nada, was friendly and chatty and explained us about the concept and dishes well.
This is a small place that has a touch of London to it, a tad bit of influence from the famous fictional detective, a nicely decorated ambience, and definitely delicious food.
