Crisol - versatile culinary brilliance
Crisol is a restaurant that serves a fusion of American, Spanish and Mexican; or as they call it, "a melting pot of versatile culinary brilliance". The interiors are on the darker side, and the decor is lovely. I was invited to this restaurant which is newly started.
They've got some interesting salads, which we started with. One of them was the 'Cuban'. It primarily consists of different varieties of cabbage mixed with some lip-smacking sauces, and topped with crisps. I liked this one a lot, especially the crunch that it had to it.
Another one was the ginger infused watermelon salad. It also had some feta cheese in it. It is a very interesting combination. The taste of ginger in the watermelon was very subtle, and it got further overpowered by the cheese. It was very well presented though.
For drinks, we had the passion fruit mojito. It is served in a huge beaker and tasted really very good. Has a lot of seeds of the fruit too.
For appetizers, we started with the rocket shrimps. The quantity was good, with a generous amount of shrimps in it. It was on the spicier side, and had a 'desi' flavor to it, which I really loved.
Next came the trash can nachos. This was definitely my favorite dish of all. The nachos were huge, and had generous amount of toppings in it. It wasn't overly cheesy and so we could keep on having it. It does get a bit soggy after a bit, but that's expected given all the toppings on it. Nonetheless, it tastes really delicious. Quantity definitely meant for sharing.
Then we had the soft shell crab. The crab was de-shelled, and fried with batter. The taste of the crab seem to have lost somewhere while doing so. It tasted just about okay. This item was in the introduction stage at this time, and may or may not be available in the menu.
For mains we had the 'dangerous' slider. The bun is red in color and looks really tempting. I really liked the taste of this one. The flavor was very good, and didn't require any additional sauces. The patty was a tad bit oily, but nothing to complain about.
There was the seafood paella too. The rice in this was really nice. It had shrimps, mussels, and calamari in it. The seafood in this is cooked separately (and not with the rice as is traditionally done), to suit the local taste. Overall, the taste was good.
We also had the barbecued black cod. The cod fish was cooked well, but this dish seemed bland. It could do with some more flavors. This too was in the introduction stage and may or may not be available in the menu.
After all of this we didn't have much place in our tummies. But dessert! The waitress suggested us the 'Trio baked yogurt'. This consists of three yogurts of different flavors. There was the mango which I liked the most. All three are very different from each other. They were overly sweet for me though.
The dessert which totally bowled me over is the 'Crisol Hit'. It consists of layers of brownies, and ice-creams, and hot chocolate is poured on it right in front of you. The moment I took a bit, I just couldn't stop until I finished it all.
Here's a video of how it's made:
This is how it looks on your plate.
The staff is friendly and serves with a smile. An interesting concept definitely worth trying out.
