Black salt - Molecular Gastronomy
This restaurant serves art. Modern Culinary Art. The food is extremely pleasing to the eyes, and also for your tongue.
I was invited to try out this restaurant which has started recently and uses the concept of molecular gastronomy.
It is located in University City in Sharjah. The road is still being constructed but this area is picking up really fast and has quite a few good restaurants around.
I liked the interiors of this place. Though it is not too big, it has a modern looking theme using the brown/gold/grey colours.
We started with the drinks. They have quite a few good ones. I saw the photo of the Pinacolada in their menu and it looked really tempting so I ordered it. It is served in a pineapple-shaped metal container, and when it is brought to the table, you can see the magic. The taste was the best mocktail that I had there, and you must definitely try it out.
They also have the fresh juices that are served in a similar fashion. This was in a beaker-style apparatus and looked even more appealing.
For starters we first had the Fiery Bites. This consists of chicken bites in the fiery sauce. The sauce tasted really good, but the chicken had become a little soggy. It is similar to dynamite prawns, but is chicken instead.
Then there was the mac and cheese nachos. This was crispy and cheesy; not bad at all.
There was also the salmon tikka on ruffles. This initially looked like a chicken tikka, but I was pleasantly surprised to know that it is salmon. It tasted really good. Even after having a few bites, I couldn't believe that it is salmon (from the looks). It was really well made.
Last of the starters was the Slow Cooked Pulled Beef. This was served with Garlic Bread. This had a creamy texture to it and the flavors were irresistible. The garlic bread complemented this well.
They have salads too and we had the Quinoa Tabouleh. As you must have guessed, this tasted really healthy and fresh too. It is an interesting combination which you will rarely get elsewhere.
Then we had the shish tawook on paratha. Shish tawook are chicken kebabs, and they were served on a paratha. The paratha was fluffy albeit crispy. The shish tawook wasn't bad, but felt a bit dry.
We also had some sliders. There was the wagyu sliders which had really juicy beef, and the crispy chicken slider which also was really good.
We also had a vegetarian thai green curry which tasted really very good.
A meal here couldn't have been complete without some desserts that blow you away.
One of them was the Date Cake in a cage. This one looked so good, that we just kept looking at it. I had a bite of the date cake, and it was a let down. Perhaps after seeing how good it looks, the bar was set really high.
Next up was the red-velvet tower. This too had the smokey bling to it. The taste was pretty good; but felt a bit dry.

The one that I liked the most was the Milk Cake with White Chocolate Dome. This not only looked great, but tasted amazing too. Molten white chocolate is poured over the chocolate dome which melts and breaks to reveal the milk cake inside. Milk cake can get a bit too sweet at times, but this one didn't feel so. It had the right amount of sweetness to it, and I could just go on eating it.
It is priced slightly on the higher side. Of-course given the presentation, the prices aren't that high, but I have also given the location and approach road (which is sandy and not constructed at the time of writing this blogpost) a consideration at this point. The road might not matter all that much if you're just looking for a fancy place to eat, but if it something like a special occasion that you're celebrating, then it doesn't leave a very good first impression.
Overall, it is certainly worth a visit to try out the food that is very appealing.

The mains were interesting too. The dish that was really well presented was the Butter Chicken chow. It was served in a cylindrical bread that was scooped out, and since the butter chicken was flowing out, it looked as if a volcano was erupting. The taste also lived up to it. The pieces of chicken were a tad bit bigger than usual.
