Grecian Grill - Authentic Greek cuisine

I'm always looking for some cuisines which we don't get too often, and one such cuisine in Dubai is Greek. Also, it is really hard to find an authentic place, since many of them are tweaked to suit local audiences. I was invited to try out this place which was started in late 2016.

This restaurant is run by a Greek couple - Kyriakos and Julia - who themselves are at the restaurant regularly, and we had the opportunity to meet them. The chef too, is a relative of theirs and we could see the passion that this family has to serve people delicious Greek food.

We started with some of their cold starters which looked a bit similar to Arabic ones, but are quite different. One of these was the Tirokafteri which is a blend of feta cheese, yoghurt, and chili peppers. This was among my favourite here.

There was also the Grecian hummus. It had a bit of honey, and wasn't all that much to my liking.

The next one was the eggplant salad, which was fresh and similar to baba ghanoush

Another one of the Greek cold starters was the Tzatziki which is yoghurt marinated with cucumber, and some garlic and olive oil to it. This was fresh and creamy.

Now moving to some hot starters, the one that I loved the most was the Fava, which was a paste made form Fava beans. It was topped with caramelized onions (which definitely made this one taste brilliant),  lemon, and oregano.

They have a healthier version of fries, which is the zucchini sticks. I had it for the first time, and it tasted really good along with the yoghurt sauce.

Feta cheese is used so prominently in Greek cuisine, that it has a dish of its own - Baked Feta Cheese. It is served with tomato sauce, peppers, and herbs. This tasted pretty good.

The next one was the Grecian grill's Garlic bread. It is topped with tomato sauce and pesto basil; this one is similar to a manakeesh.

Though I'm not a big salad fan, this salad is worth mentioning - the Dakos salad from Crete. This contains rusk topped with tomato puree. Of-course this contains feta cheese too! A really interesting salad.

The other salad was a more healthy one - Rocket salad with Spinach. Apart from the leaves, there's also tomatoes, parmesan, and nuts. This one was just about okay.

Their specialty are the grill, and that's what we tried for the mains - the mixed grill. It's got lamb chops, chicken skewers, beef patties, and kebabs. All of these were grilled really well. These were served with fries on the side, and some delicious dips too.
The best part is that they make everything fresh. They don't store it in the freezer for over a couple of days, and you can really make out from the taste.

They have some traditional Greek sweets too, and they got us four of these to try out.
The first one was the Galaktomboureko. This is made from filo dough and has custard inside. If you like custard, you'll definitely like this.

My favourite one was the Greek orange pie. This wasn't like an ordinary pie. It had layers and was crispy. Definitely try this one.

Then came the halva which is made from semolina. It was a bit too sweet for me.

The last one was the chocolate walnut cake. This one wasn't too bad either.

They have some good coffees too. Now you might wonder that coffees are the same everywhere, and that's what I thought, but they had something called as the Freddo Cappuccino which has different layers, and some cinnamon on top which is pretty good.

I had the Greek frappe which was basically cold black coffee. initially I though there is foam on it, but it was the coffee itself which had formed the froth. Do try this one out.

They also have these really cool coin tissues which fluff up when you add water to it.

I think the primary reason to go there is the vibe that this place has to it. It is a small place, but gives you the feel that you're in Greece. Also, this is among the very few restaurants in Dubai who serve authentic Greek food. You can see the passion that goes in making  the food.

Also, the views from this place are great as you get to see the Dubai Marina from here, and all the yachts that are parked there.
