Bosporous - Turkish cuisine

Bosporous is one of the well known restaurant for Turkish food in Dubai. I'm a fan of Turkish food, especially the kebabs, and was really happy to be invited here.

As soon as I entered, I got a good feel, especially given the fact that it was a summer afternoon, and I was just walking from my car here. The ambient temperature felt just right, and the seating area had ample natural light seeping through.
They also have a section upstairs which has a bit of a casual feel to it, but the kind that you'd love to visit on a laid back day and just sit for long hours. Part of the section upstairs is also smoking, and they serve shisha too.

We started with the Bosporous signature salad which has walnuts, raisins, greens, cheese and more. I'm not personally big fan of walnuts, but my friend really liked it. Also, the quantity was really good.

They have some really nice cold appetisers, and if you're unable to decide, then the mixed appetiser platter is a good option. It includes hummus, cacik, mohammara, aci ezme, and a few more Turkish favourites. It is served in a crescent shaped platter along with a huge hot bread. All of it tasted really fresh and tasty.

For the drinks, we had a strawberry smoothie which was really good - cold and refreshing with the right amount of consistency to it.

The other one was a Turkish soda - niğde gazozu. It is a local beverage in Turkey and is very similar to sprite.

We then had the ali nazik kebab. It came across as a bit different for me since there were small pieces instead of the regular kebabs. It is made of lamb and egg-plant. It tasted really good nonetheless.

How about some pizza? You might wonder as to why a pizza in a Turkish restaurant. Well, it's a Turkish pizza, and they do have manakish/pide which is like a pizza anyway; this one is totally like a pizza. It is topped with doner - you can choose between chicken or lamb, or half-n-half; there's a generous amount of cheese of-course. Hot, crispy, and thin - we totally indulged in this one.

The Turks are known for their kebabs, and the ones I had here were irresistible.
The first one was the yogurtlu kebab. It has a simple presentation and is served with Yugurtlu (yogurt and garlic) sauce on the side. The kebab itself too has yogurt and tomatoes, and a little bit of Turkish tomato sauce over it. This was my favourite kebab here.

The next one was really appealing - the fistikli kasharli kebab. It is served on a long wooden board and wrapped in thin bread. The fascinating aspect about this one is that it contains cheese and pistachios. This was something new to me and beyond my imagination. Take a bite, and you can taste the burst of flavour in your mouth. The flavours of the cheese and the pistachio are subtle but noticeable. On the side is bulghur rice that is commonly had in Turkey.

For the desserts, we had the semolina halwa. It is very similar to taste in the Indian halwa since they're basically made of semolina. The taste was not bad, but nothing great I felt. Though I liked the way they served it.

On the other hand, the special bosporous kunafa was heavenly, especially the generous amount of cheese and the pistachios over it. Also, the sweetness was perfect - not overly sweet, not less sweet either.  Definitely have this one when you're there!

They also have their own parking area behind the restaurant. It is in the sand, but it is still better than nothing and you can park there for free.

I think it was the ambience coupled with the good food that made my visit their really enjoyable.
