Silver Beach Cafe - Al Seef
This is the same brand that's there in Mumbai, and it serves delicious European food. It has recently started and they invited me to try out their delicacies
It has a seating upstairs where it also serves alcohol and shisha.
I was with a vegetarian friend and we were pleasantly surprised to see the ample options for vegetarians. They do not have a vegan menu yet, but are planning to introduce some vegan items soon.
Most of the dishes reviewed in this post are vegetarian friendly:
We started with the Cottage cheese sambal for the appetiser. I'm a big fan of the sambal chilli (though it's not European) and the cottage cheese was lightly tossed in its paste. At first I thought it might not be all that flavourful but it surpassed our expectations. The taste was totally on point; it is on the spicier side.
For sea-food lovers, the coriander fish cakes are a must try. They're served with a lovely thousand island dressing and topped with tobiko. The lemon adds a zesty taste to it which makes it really flavourful overall.
(That was the only non-veg item in this review.)
For the drinks, we had a strawberry daiquiri (non-alcoholic), which I totally loved given the zesty flavour that lingers on your tongue. The sorbet melted away slowly, so the drink remained cold throughout .
The other one was the mango freezer. This too is kind of a sorbet, but the interesting part is that it wasn't the typical mango flavour which gets too sweet towards the end. Perhaps this was a different kind of a mango variety; I'm not sure, but it might have been the Chausa.
Moving on to some mains now...
We saw the Tartufata flat bread pizza and just had to have one of it. It is really thin and has truffle oil, porcini mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, and also some rocket leaves which really add to the flavour. The best part is that it felt very light when I had it and I could just go on eating it. Not to forget, it is topped with grated Parmesan too!
Want something really cheesy, to munch throughout your meal? The fondue is here.
They've got three flavours and we ordered the one with jalapenos, chilli, and paprika.
With this, you get grilled vegetables, potato wedges and croutons.
I especially liked the wedges since they seemed really fresh and hot; all the melted cheese, and it was heaven.
We had some more place in our tummy before we run into the space saved for dessert, so we called for the Grilled Vegetable shashlik. You get mushroom, bell peppers, zucchini, and broccoli that is served on a skewer with a brownish tomato coulis. It is served on a bed of saffron cous cous, and along with avocado chutney (which was okay) and salsa. So overall, it's quite a treat for those who're healthy conscious.
For the sweet endings, we had the berry tart, which is made form raspberry and strawberry. It is served with a strawberry sorbet & crushed gingerbread biscotti and was really good. The cream balanced the sour flavours very well. This obviously does not get too sweet or give the sugar rush, but is mildly sweet.
The other one was the tiramisu. This one is made in a different way almost everywhere. Here, it was served in a bowl. At first, I didn't quite like it perhaps because I had a particular expectation about it in mind, but after a few bites, I was really enjoying the flavours. This one was bitter and you could feel the strong taste of the coffee. It was really creamy too.
Of-course you must have noticed by now that I really enjoyed the food here, but there was another factor that elevated our dining experience here - it was the music. They played an amazing selection of English songs from the 90's; these were real classics which gave us company throughout. I almost stayed back after our meal just for the songs.
There were a couple of drawbacks though (albeit nothing major). They do not have valet parking, which would be an issue for some especially on weekends, but otherwise it is less than a 5 minute walk from the parking.
The other one is even more negligible for most. The restaurant does not have an elevator go to upstairs (while most of the other restaurants in Al Seef do). If you're looking to get a bit tipsy or have shisha for which you'll have to sit upstairs, then you'll have to take the stairs.
They do have outside seating which would be nice for the cooler months.
Overall I had a very good experience at this restaurant and would definitely recommend you to go check it out.
