Spicy and Ginger - Thai food
This restaurant is located near the Zabeel stadium along the Oud Metha road. It has been a few months since it started, and they invited me to try it out. The place is easy to find, and getting a parking on regular days is also very easy.
I liked the ambience of this place; it has a traditional Asian feel to it.
They have an interesting selection of drinks, and some nice Thai food.
I think the beverage that really caught my attention was the Butterfly Pea lemon soda juice. The butterfly pea is an Asian flower that is purple and that gave the drink a pinkish colour. They serve it as separate ingredients and it is fun to mix it all. The taste too was really nice.
Next is a drink called the "Spicy and Ginger". As you must have noticed, it shares its name with the restaurant. This one has a chilli, ginger, and some lemon. It has a strong flavour of ginger and you can feel it as it goes down your throat.
For those who like cinnamon, there's a drink names "Indian bell with cinnamon". It wasn't served as chilled as the others, but the taste was something unmistakable.
I also ordered a passion fruit cooler. Usually I really like passion fruit, but this one tasted okay. I wouldn't say it was bad, but not something commendable.
Last but not the least, the Thai Ice Coffee. It has cubes of iced coffee in it, and then you pour some more coffee and the milk over it. It becomes stronger as you let it settle.
For the bites, we started with the classic - batter fried shrimp. Crispy from the outside, juicy form the inside. They were served with plum sauce that accentuated the flavour.
A famous Thai appetiser is the deep fried marinated chicken wrapped in pandan leaves. The pandan leaves help preserve the flavour well; the chicken was really flavourful too.
The deep-fried shrimp cake on the menu was tempting us too, and we couldn't resist ordering one. It was soft and you wouldn't be able to stop after just a bite. It tasted even better with the plum sauce on the side.
We also asked for a Thai beef salad (nam tok neua) looking at the appealing picture. It also had some shallots, and leafy herbs and stick rice powder. It had a very strong aroma; something that we weren't used to. If you aren't accustomed to hardcore Thai food, I'd suggest you do not order this.
They have some really nice soups too, and we had the tom kha. It has a coconut base, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's mild. It is a bit spicy, and has strong flavours of lemongrass, lime leaves, and galangal (Thai ginger).
We felt a bit more soupy, and so we called for the Tom Yam soup. You can either have it with instant noodles, or rice noodles. we choose the former; also along with shrimp. We were going crazy over the sour and spicy flavours and the juicy shrimps in it.
Stir fry is very popular in Asian cuisine, and we had the Thai stir fry chicken with cashew. This is the kind of stir fry that I've come across the most; the one served here too was really nice.
You can't leave the restaurant without the Thai curry. We had the Panang curry (red curry). It has the coconut base, and we ordered for it to be made with prawns. This was spicy and we had it with sticky rice. This combination of Thai food feels really comforting to me.
For dessert, we had the very popular mango with sticky rice. Honestly, this was the first time I was having it, and I must say that I quite liked it. You pour the coconut milk on the sticky rice, take a bite and then dig in to the mango.
They've also got seating upstairs, and during sporting seasons, they screen the matches too.
They also have set meal options for AED 49.
And a crazy offer where you review them and get a 20% discount (see details in below picture)
