Urban Cook House
This is a restaurant in Karama that serves Indian cuisine as well as Indo-Chinese.
I was invited here and was looking forward to the dining experience.
As soon as you enter, you will notice that it has an upmarket feel to it; not so much that I'd call it a fine dine, but definitely a better ambience than the other Indo-Chinese restaurants in Bur Dubai.
We started with the mango lassi which was thick and had the right amount of sweetness.
I ordered pudina lassi which took forever to come. Our starters were here, but the lassi wasn't. When it was served, it was thick, but unlike the mango lassi, a pudina lassi isn't meant to be thick. Also, it wasn't very cold, so after a few minutes, it was almost at room temperature, and did not feel appetising at all.
We started with the kebab platters. The non-veg one had two kinds of seekh kebabs which were pretty good; they should have been a tad bit moist though. The other two kebabs tasted good.
From the veg platter, I really liked the stuffed potatoes. The platter also had paneer.
The starter which we all really loved was the chicken parda. It had the right amount of spice to it, and the texture was on point too.
We had the chicken & prawn dim-sums and they were nice. Do ask for extra sauce along with it though.
An all time favourite is the dynamite shrimp, and we tried it here too. It was a bit different than the ones we have usually; it had a soft coating on it, and then there was the dynamite sauce. Due to the coating, you do not get a crunch to these; the flavour though was really good.
They also have a vegetarian variant of the same - the dynamite mushroom. It also comes with some broccoli in it. This one too tasted really nice and is certainly worth a try.
Now moving on the mains, we saw the chicken biryani on the menu and called for one. This wasn't all that good; the flavour was a bit off, and the chicken was okay. In my opinion you can skip it.
The item that you should definitely try though is the peshawari bhuna gosht. The gravy of this one was delicious. The mutton too was very good.
They have some interesting desserts. They've made the gulab jamuns even better.
One of them is the stuffed mawa gulab jamun which is something unique and worth a try. This one is served warm.
The other one is the gulab jamun with cream which is served cold. This one is not bad, but nothing rave-worthy.
If you're looking for a place that serves Indian and Indo-Chinese, and has an upmarket feel to it, do give it a shot. The food is pretty good overall.
