Bombay Bungalow

This place was previously called the "house of curry", and now it has got a complete makeover. We were at JBR walk, and looking for an Indian restaurant. There aren't many choices so we ended up going here.

The ambiance inside is really nice. They've got a mini fountain inside, and some trees too, and especially the Indian Monalisa that caught my attention.

The starters were really interesting. They were a fusion of sorts. After seeing "calamari bhel" in the menu, obviously I couldn't resist ordering. This one was really yum. The chutneys aren't as much as you'd expect in a bhel, and it is a bit dry, but taste is good nonetheless.

Now I love paneer, and I'm a big fan of zaatar. Guess what I see on the menu next. The zaatar paneer tikka!
This one wasn't all that bad. The flavor of zaatar wasn't so prominent, and overall felt a bit bland, though the paneer was soft. I was expecting more from it. It is served with a tahini betroot dip.

Another one of the starters was the malai chicken tikka. The chicken was a bit hard. The flavor wasn't too bad. It was served with date and fig chutney which was nice.

To quench our thirst, we had the Indian summer, and the underfire. Both of them were okay. The waiter, Rajnish who was serving us was very courteous and said that he will fix them and get it. Even after that, they were just okay.

For the mains, I felt the options were less, especially if someone is a vegetarian. Since we also had vegetarians with us, we chose one bhindi masala. It had ample amount of masala to it and I really like the flavor.

Another one was the tilwale aloo. This aloo dish was so simple yet so flavorful. We were left wanting for more.

With it, we also had dal tadka. This one could have been better.

There was this interesting dish called the burrata butter chicken, and we just had to order it. It is butter chicken with a burrata on top. This looked really amazing. It is cheesy. The gravy tasted good; the chicken didn't taste too bad. The pieces could have been a bit smaller, as well as softer. If you want something unique, you can order it.

We had the mains with Zaatar & Olive naan, and Roomali roti. Both of these were fluffy and really good.

For dessert, we saw a chocolate fondant in the menu, but sadly that wasn't available, so the waiter suggested us another item. I was wondering what could make it up to our expectations of something as good as a fondant, but this one surely did. It was the chocolate cheesecake gulab jamun! I'm sure just reading the name made you drool. This one was pure indulgence. There is a gulab jamun inside it, and the outside was the cheesecake; decorated with edible flowers. Definitely indulge in this one.
