Milas - Fusion Emirati cuisine
This is one the the most classy and upmarket Emirati restaurant that I've come across in recent times. It is located in the Denim district in Dubai Mall, and they invited me to try out their food.
As soon as you enter, you'll see the lovely decor - the chandeliers, the mirrors - it's glittery, though not tacky. They also have a customized stand for cutlery, as well as one for the menu which is on an iPad.
They got us the complimentary bread and the chickpeas while we decided what to order from their vast and tempting menu.
We started with the kashk badmejan. This is a paste of eggplant and chick peas mixed with saffron, onion, and kish. It is topped with crispy fried onion. I took one bite of this and totally loved it, but my friend didn't like it at all. I think you need to have a taste developed for this one, and then only you'll like it.
The next item was the Pizza Mbahar Deyay. It wasn't exactly a pizza, but something like a calzone. It had the filling of chicken and topped with mozarella cheese. This one tasted pretty good.
The next one was the Kebab Harr. These were spicy lamb kebabs. The flavour was just right, the spiciness was on point, and the softness too was just the way it's expected. We really enjoyed these.
Last, but not the least, was an item from their new additions - the Lamb Biryani. Our mouth started watering when we hear biryani, and this was no exception. As soon as it was brought to our table, the aroma was so good, that I just couldn't wait to eat it. I took one bite and noticed that the lamb was so well cooked, and extremely soft. So soft that it was almost melting in our mouth. The biryani overall was delicious too, and I would recommend that you do not leave this restaurant without trying it out.
For drinks, I had the pomegranate mango crusher. This tasted really good, and so refreshing since it was really chilled. I could get prominent flavours of both the fruits in it.
Coming to the sweet endings, they have a lot of options in their menu, and we wanted all, but finally settled on three of them.
The first one was the Shubaik Lubaik. If you want a dessert that is a treat for the eyes, this is the one to order. There is dry ice at the bottom, and ice-cream at the top.
You can see the below video to get an idea of what this is. Sadly, I din't like this one much.
The next one was something which caught my attention. It was the Mystery of Oud. The main attraction of this dessert is the smell. The dish is covered with oud-scented smoke. As soon as the lid is removed, you can get the strong smell of oud. Inside are desserts like mud cake and ice-cream. The initial aroma was great, but I'm not sure if I want something that smells like oud, to be put in my mouth.
The last dessert was the one which tasted the best and was my personal favourite. This one did not look or smell fancy, but tasted fantastic. It is called the suite milk. It is made from dulce de leche ice-cream, caramelized shortbread, and whipped cheese. This was really indulgent, and I just wanted to go on having this one. If you're looking for a dessert which tastes good, this is the one to have.
In the end, they also gave us the toothpick in this innovative toothpick holder.
I noticed that the dishes here aren't exactly Emirati, but a fusion and combination of dishes from around the world. Overall a very good place, with great food, and fantastic ambience.
